  • France now backs India in NSG entry

      After the United States, UK, Canada, now  France has come out in support for India's NSG membership. It has strongly backed India's membership bid for the Nuclear Suppliers Group and has asked member nations to take a "positive decision". In an official statement the French foreign ministry said, "In line with its active and long-standing support to India's entry to the NSG as a full-fledged member, France calls on its members, who are meeting on 23 June in Seoul, to take a positive decision''.

    China is an inspiration says Rajan

      China should be seen as an inspiration rather than a competition is what Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has to say. "I think we should see China as inspiration, rather than as a competition...as inspiration we should see what a country can do in three decades if it is focused and has very strong faith on what it needs to do," he said.

    Pak Supplies Nuclear Material to N Korea

      According to US sources, Pakistan, in violation of UN norms, is supplying nuclear material to North Korea. Pakistan apparently was also providing North Korea equipment which are directly used in producing nuclear weapons. Some from the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission were supplying restricted items like 'Monel' and 'Inconel' that were supplied by Chinese companies, to North Korea.

    Jaitley hits back at BJP MP

      BJP MP Subramanian Swamy had earlier in the day demanded that the government sack Chief Economic Advisor Arvind Subramanian saying he was not working in tandem with the Modi government. But Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday said the government stands by Arvind Subramanian and that there was no question of him being removed.   “The government has full confidence in CEA Arvind Subramanian. He has provided valuable insights from time to time. We do not share Subramanian Swamy’s view,” Jaitley said.

    Priyanka Gandhi responds to ED notice

      Priyanka Gandhi's husband Robert Vadra's company Skylight Hospitality has received notices from the Enforcement Directorate in connection with its alleged involvement in money laundering in a land deal in Rajasthan's Bikaner district. When questioned about this, Priyanka responded to the media by saying, ''Apparently, we have received it at 4 o'clock today but you received it before us".

    After Rajan;Swamy targets Subramanian

      After his attack on Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan, BJP MP Subramanian Swamy has a new target, its the Chief Economic Adviser Arvind Subramanian. He has called for the sacking the economic advisor just days after he targeted Rajan saying the same. Swamy recalled that Subramanian had recommended that the US government act against India through the WTO over its pharmaceutical IPR regulations.

    Famous Pak singer shot dead

      Amjad Sabri, a famous Pakistani singer, who was known for his qawwalis has been shot dead by unknown assailants in the Karachi, Pakistani on Wednesday. Amjad, 45, was travelling in a car along with another person when unknown gunmen opened fire at his car. He was shot in the chest and head and he was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed hospital immediately. All the three in the car, have succumbed to their injuries and were declared dead. Amjad Sabri was the son of renowned Qawwal Ghulam Farid Sabri.  

    Birthday wishes on Flex will put you in Jail

      The Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) has some good news for all those people who are tired of seeing birthday wishes poster hanging around the length and breadth of the city. Any person or organisation that puts up a display ad which includes PG vacancies, film posters, etc or for that matter even nails it to a tree, without taking permission from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will face action as case would be booked on them and might land them in jail.

    Humiliated Olympian exits sports body

      The first Indian athlete to ever to win a medal in a World Athletics Championships Anju Bobby George quit the post of president of the Kerala Sports Council after being humiliated by the state's sports minister who has accused the olympian of corruption. She said, ''You can kill us, but you can't defeat us...Sports is beyond purview of any party or politics".

    'PAN must' rule reduces luxury goods sale

      The sale of luxury products such as handbags, watches and writing instruments has been hit by the new PAN must rule. Submitting PAN card details has been made mandatory by the government for any transaction above Rs 2 lakhs in an attempt to raze out black money. Luxury store executives say that they have lost several lakhs of rupees over the last few days but have not been able to figure out a way around the problem, as most of the customers are not willing to furnish their PAN card details.

    Doctor performs surgery using torchlight

      Doctors at a hospital in Gwalior were performing surgeries on two women in separate operations theaters when there was a power cut at the hospital. As the generator also could not provide a power back up they were forced to operate on the women using torch lights in the operation theatre as it was pitch dark inside. The power was later restored after 15 minutes.

    Kohli to choose between Shastri &Kumble

      The Indian Test cricket captain Virat Kohli has been asked to help finalize the next Indian chief coach by the The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar interviewed the six shortlisted candidates in Kolkata on Tuesday. According to reports Kohli has to choose between Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble as a coach for the team.

    Girl made to drink phenyl during ragging

      A 19 year old Kerala nursing student was forced to drink phenyl while she was ragged at her college. She was joined in a hospital with burnt food pipe and damaged internal organs. She joined the college five months back and was ragged by her seniors regularly. On May 9, she was forced to drink phenyl which led to her hospitalization. There are reports in the media that the girl was mentally tortured by third year seniors who kept blaming her for her skin color.

    We have selected the next coach:Ganguly

      The Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar interviewed the six shortlisted candidates in Kolkata on Tuesday. It included the likes of Anil Kumble, Ravi Shastri, Praveen Amre, Lalchand Rajput, Tom Moody and Stuart Law, who made presentations and showcased their blueprint for the future of the Indian cricket team.   While talking to the media about the interviews and the selection process on Tuesday former captain Sourav Ganguly said,''The process is now over, there will be no more interviews after this. The committee will now meet President Ajay Shirke this week to discuss the matter. It should be announced this week itself. Around 10 candidates gave their interviews today, we have made our choice and the name will be forwarded to the Secretary tonight itself.”

    India look for series win against Zim today

      The fairly young and inexperienced Indian cricket team would be looking to finish off the tour of Zimbabwe with a win against the host team. India will take on the host to win the series which is leveled at 1-1. The match will be played at Harare Sports Club on Wednesday. India had earlier won the ODI series 3-0 but had a bad start to their T20 campaign as they lost their first match to Zimbabwe by 2 runs in a last ball thriller.

    Pak happy for blocking india's NSG entry

      Sartaj Aziz, who is the Pakistan Prime Minister's advisor on foreign affairs told the parliament, "We have been making successful efforts against India's Nuclear Suppliers Group membership". These comments from Pakistan come just ahead of the key meeting of the 48-nation NSG this week in Seoul when it will take up the applications of India and Pakistan.  

    Fresh inquiry into Rohith Vemula Caste

      There is another new development in the Rohith Vemula suicide case. Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande has ordered for fresh inquiry for ascertaining the caste of Rohith Vemula. He said that the caste status of the research scholar is shrouded in "ambiguity" and needs to be probed afresh. This is because the Guntur report said he was a Dalit, but the Gurjala one said he was from a backward class. This led to no clarity in the matter.

    I am not anyone's chappal says Minister

      Former housing minister of Karnataka actor turned politician Ambareesh is not a happy man these day. He was one of the first ministers to resign as an MLA and from the Congress party as an effect of the cabinet reshuffle by the congress government in Karnataka. He said, " I am not anyone's chappal to use and throw,  I am a popular  man". He added, "I am a three-time MP. I was a central minister and I worked with him for three years. You must call us and say Ambareesh give the chance to somebody else. I would have happily given"

    Lightening strikes Bihar leaving 55 dead

      As monsoon rains lashed different districts of Bihar, the lightening which accompanied it has killed almost 55 people and injuring 8. Government has announced a compensation of 4 lakhs to the kin of the dead. The worst hit parts of Bihar were Nalanda, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Purnea.
