  • India hits a century at Olympics with athletes

      The India’s Olympics contingent touched the hundred numbermark for the first time. With 103 athletes having qualified in all for the four year event and more likely to add to the list before the end of the Olympic qualification period Rio will see the biggest Indian contingent in history. The previous highest was the 83 member contingent which participated at the London Olympics in 2012. The biggest contribution has been through athletics. The total number of athletes who will participate at Rio will be at least 29. India will be looking to beat the London record which was India’s most successful in terms of medal count with two silver and four bronze.

    Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s account hacked

      After hacking into Mark Zuckerberg's social media accounts, a group of hackers named Ourmine has now targeted Google CEO Sundar Pichai. The group made several posts to Pichai's Twitter account from his Quora account, and claimed to have hacked into both the accounts. The three man hacker group has been posting messages on Quora through Pichai’s account as it’s also connected to his Twitter account and as a result, OurMine was able to publicize their hack to all 508,000 of his followers. Though the accounts have now been restored to normalcy, there was no official statement on the same from either Google or Quora as yet.

    Mysore Maharaja ties the knot at Mysore Palace

      "King" Yaduveer Wadiyar has tied the knot with his beautiful bride Trishika Kumari Singh from the Rajasthani royalty earlier today. This was the first wedding in over 40 years being held at the historic Mysore Palace in Karnataka. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, 24 years of age was adopted by Queen mother Rani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar after her husband Srikantadatta Narasihma Raja Wodeyar died three years ago, as the couple had no children. The bride Trishika Kumari belongs to the Royal family of Dungarpur in Rajasthan. Yaduveer, now the 27th "King" of Wodeyar dynasty was engaged to Trishika much before his adoption as scion to royal family.

    4 candidates shortlisted for RBI Gov post:Govt

      There were a number of names doing the rounds for the next Reserve Bank of India Governor's position. And according to government sources, there are 4 nameswhich have been finally shortlisted for the position. They are RBI Deputy Governor Urjit Patel; former deputy governors Rakesh Mohan and Subir Gokarn; and State Bank of India Chair Arundhati Bhattacharya. Out of the four, three are economists and veterans of the central bank with the other the head of the country's largest bank. While the current RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan will be joining the search committee to appoint three external members of a new six-member RBI Monetary Policy Committee.

    1.6Cr bogus ration cards cancelled by Govt

      In a huge crackdown on duplicate ration cards being issued, Government has cancelled 1.6 Crore bogus ration cards. This will help the government save Rs. 10,000 Crore in subsidy bill annually. Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa said that in addition, the government has saved Rs 14,872 crore by offering subsidy on cooking gas (LPG) directly to consumers and direct benefit transfer (DBT) is planned to be extended to 150 schemes by the end of this year. Implementation of PAHAL, has helped to take out Rs. 3.5 crore duplications and bogus users, helping save Rs. 14,982 crore in annual fuel subsidy. Making Aadhaar as the unique identification number to identify beneficiaries has resulted in removal of duplicate beneficiaries, which has led to significant savings across welfare schemes.

    India gets full membership in MTCR

      After the stiff opposition from China which led to India not being able to become a member of NSG, in a big boost to India, it was confirmed on Monday that it has become a full member of Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR). The press release said,"The MTCR Point of Contact in Paris has conveyed the decision regarding India’s accession to the regime through the Embassy of France in New Delhi as well as the Embassies of The Netherlands and Luxembourg". MTCR membership will enable India to buy high-end missile technology and also enhance its joint ventures with Russia. The release added that India’s entry into the regime as its 35th member would be mutually beneficial in the furtherance of international non-proliferation objectives.

    13000 Cr black money found by IT Dept

      The Income Tax authorities have unearthed more than Rs 13,000 crore, as a result which yielded from the crackdown by the Government on those who are saving their undeclared income in overseas bank accounts. This was possible from just two sets of information received in 2011 and 2013. The details were received from the French government in 2011, and the unaccounted for income amounts to Rs 8,186 crore. Based on another set of information disclosed in 2013  I-T officials have detected undisclosed income of Rs 5,000 crore in foreign bank accounts allegedly linked to 700 Indians. This is the highest ever disclosure from offshore bank accounts.

    Singapore airlines flight catches fire

      While making an emergency landing at Changi Airport on Monday, Singapore airlines flight caught fire. Following an engine oil warning message, the flight which was going to Milan turned back to the airport. It was a close to death experience for  222 passengers and 19 crew on board the Boeing 777-300ER flight. One of the passengers aboard the flight posted a 49-second video clip of the fire engulfing the plane and exclaimed, "I just escaped death!!!!". He added that after reaching Changi Airport, as the plane was landing, the engine burst into flames, and it was a difficult 5 minute wait for the passengers before the fire engine and fire fighters were pressed into action to put out the fire. They shot foam and water into the fire and eventually it was put out.

    India gets 99% access to US defence techonology

      In a major boost to India and its defence department, US has announced that it has given access to almost 99% of US defence technologies to India. India was earlier recognized as a 'Major Defence Partner' in a joint statement after a meeting between US President Barack Obama and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House. While elaborating what it exactly means, a US official said, "India (now) enjoys access to (defence) technologies that is on par with our treaty allies. That is a very unique status. India is the only other country that enjoys that status outside our formal treaty allies". Under this recognition, India would receive license-free access to a wide range of dual-use technologies.

    Union Minister calls Kejriwal a 'dramebaaz'

    In a attack on the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Union Minister of state Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said the Centre has no time to respond to each and every allegation of these "dramebaaz". Kejriwal who as been attacking Prime Minister Modi for almost all the happenings in his state of Delhi, has even blamed the PM for the arrest of his MLA and said Modi has declared a state of emergency in Delhi. He held him responsible for the complaint which was registered against the Delhi deputy CM for harassment. Rijiju said, "It is better not to react much on Kejriwal's statements. We are so busy running such a big country and people have given us an opportunity to serve it". "If we also start enacting dramas like these dramebaaz, who will take care of the country?" Rijiju asked the reported.

    35% of our vegetables are from foreign land

    In a shocking revelation of a study, it has come out to light that of all the food grains, vegetables and fruits grown and eaten in India, about a third originally came from some foreign land. A study of 177 countries by scientists has found that in India, more than a third of all food items derived from plants, grains, vegetables, fruits, spices, oils, sugar and many such food has originated and developed elsewhere. These include potatoes and tomatoes from the Andean region in South America, onions from West Asia, chillies from Central America, mustard seed from the Mediterranean region, garlic and apples from Central Asia.

    Manipur will not get newspaper for 1 month

    People in Manipur will starting their day for another whole month without their daily read of the newspaper.  This is because the sole agent in the state was forced to shut shop by the Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA). As a "form of punishment" for being found stocking, displaying and selling copies of the Manipur General Knowlege written by R. Gupta and published by Ramesh Publishing House, New Delhi, which was banned by the KSA activist, they have been to shut down their shops for one month. This would mean that the state will go without newspapers and magazines for a month. The activists say the book was banned as there were factual mistakes in it and also because it hurts the religious sentiment of the people.

    NSG to meet again for India's entry discussion

    The members of the Nuclear Suppliers Group may be meeting soon yet again to discuss about the probability of India's entry into the group. is likely to meet again before the end of the year to specially discuss the process for allowing non-NPT signatories into the 48-nation grouping, thus providing another chance to India to put its case forward. As India is not a signatory to the Nuclear non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) that proved to be the biggest hurdle for its entry while the meeting of the members was on just a couple of days ago. China cited this as one of the main reasons why India should not get an entry into the group. US officials also indicated earlier that India might be a part of the group by the end of the year.

    Woman kisses K'taka Chief Minister in public view

    People at a felicitation programme attended by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, were in for a shock when a woman went onto the stage to be felicitated by the CM, immediately after that she gave him a peck on the cheek. Even before the CM could react to it, the woman disappeared from the stage. When asked about the incident, speaking to local media, the woman said, "He (Siddaramaiah) is like my father. I met him for the first time. I could not control the excitement. I kissed him. Nothing wrong in it." She later added that she belonged to Siddaramaiah's assembly seat Varuna in Mysore district.

    Detained AAP MLA's release by Delhi Police

    Today was a action packed day for the Delhi police and the Aam Aadmi Party. The AAP MLAs had earlier in the day decided to march to the PM's residence in protest against a complaint that was filed by Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association against Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and 51 AAP MLAs were released on Sunday after a four-hour detention by the Delhi police when they marched to surrender before Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7 RCR. According to reports Manish Sisodia was on Saturday accused of dictatorial behaviour by the Ghazipur Vegetable Market Association during his visit to the area to address the grievances of the vendors. And hence there was a complaint made against him.

    FB,Google to block extremists videos

    According to reports Google and Facebook have quietly started using automation to remove extremist content from their sites. Two of the biggest video streaming sites are taking this major step forward to eradicate violent propaganda from their sites. And they are also said to be under pressure to do so from governments around the world as attacks by extremists are increasing by the day. Along with Google and Facebook, Youtube is also said to be among the few sites which are deploying systems to block or rapidly take down Islamic State videos and other similar material from their websites. Though there is no official confirmation from the companies as yet, but there are strong reports doing the rounds that these practices are being implemented.

    India might become NSG member by year end: US

    After what looked like a failed attempt at securing the membership a the Nuclear Suppliers Group meet. US said there is still hope for India. According to a top US official there is “a path forward” for India to become a full member of the Nuclear Suppliers Group by the end of the year. He said, "We are confident that we have got a path forward by the end of this year. It needs some work. But we are confident that India would be a full member of the (NSG) regime by the end of the year". Due to the strong opposition from China and a few other member countries, India's application for membership did not go through at the NSG plenary which concluded in Seoul on Friday.

    Father blames engineering college for son's death

    A heart broken father of an 18 year old diploma student of Sanskriti Engineering College at Ghatkesar, blamed the college of foul play in his son's death. According to sources, Akhil Reddy, kept vomiting repeatedly in college after complaining of chest pain. His friends took him to the medical room in college, but was soon shifted to a nearby hospital on a two wheeler by his friends. Shortly after that he was shifted to the ESI Hospital at Erragadda, where he is reported to have died early on Friday. His father has blamed the college of negligence and also that there might be a case of ragging which he might have faced. Akhil's father said, "He was so worried that he told me to stay out and allow his friends to sit near him in the ward. Something or someone might have scared him". Police have registered a case of suspicious death.

    At Anna NTR canteen get Idli upma for Rs.5

    Anna NTR Canteen was launched by Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu, which is primarily aimed at providing subsidised meal to daily wage workers, small-time employees and poor people in the state. CM inaugurated one such canteen close to the Interim Secretariat Complex in Velagapudi in Guntur district on Saturday and had a taste of the items along with Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinarajappa, Guntur MP Jayadev Galla.   He also announced that such canteens would be set up in all 29 villages across Mangalagiri, Tadepalli and Thullur in the coming months. The menu includes Idli, Upma and Pongal, each for Rs 5 a plate during the breakfast. For lunch, they provide Sambar rice for Rs 7.50 per plate and pulihora and curd rice for Rs 6.50 per plate. The dinner menu comprises two chapatis with vegetable curry for Rs 7.50 a plate. This will be run by the Akshaya Patra Charitable Foundation (APCF) of Hare Krishna Movement
