  • Kejri fires against Modi govt again

      Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged that the BJP government spent more than Rs 1000 crore to mark two years in power. He tweeted, "Modi govt spend on ads for jst ONE event 2 yr bash? Sources- more than Rs 1000cr." While he claimed that the expenditure of the Delhi government was less than Rs 150 crore for a full year.

    Husbands can beat wives:Pak Islamic Council

      In a bizarre bill proposed by the The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), said Pakistani husbands can 'lightly' beat their wives if they disobey. The bill said that a husband should be allowed to 'lightly' beat his wife if she defies his commands, refuses to dress up as per his wishes and turns down demand of physical contact. It also recommended that an abortion after 120 days of conceiving should be declared 'murder'. And also recommended to ban co-education after primary education.

    Nigerian man beaten up in Hyderabad

    Just after there was news of protests in Congo against Indians by shutting there shops and protesting against them, there is news of fresh violence yet again against a Nigerian youth in Hyderabad. A 23-year-old Nigerian student was reportedly hit by an iron rod and thrashed in Hyderabad, following an argument over parking space on Wednesday. "We have arrested the accused, it's a case of car parking misunderstanding, not a racial crime," said Anjani Kumar, Hyderabad Police.

    Revenge against Indians in Congo

    Hundreds of protesters in Congo allegedly forced Indian shopkeepers to keep their business shut and even attacked their property demanding appropriate action in the murder case of 23-year-old Congolese national MK Olivier in New Delhi. There are about 5,000 Indians in Congo's capital Kinshasa. Olivier was a French teacher at a private institute in Delhi. He was allegedly beaten to death by the three men while he was returning from a friend's house in south Delhi's Vasant Kunj area on the night of May 20.  

    Airbag upgrade;Maruti recalls 77,000 cars

    India's leading car maker Maruti Suzuki is set to recall more than 77,000 cars to upgrade the airbag controller software and replace a faulty fuel filter, the company said in a statement. It will recall 75,419 Baleno cars, including 17,231 units of exports, manufactured between August 3, 2015 and May 17, 2016 to upgrade the airbag controller software.  

    SC refuses to stay NEET ordinance

    There is finally some respite for the medical students of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana along with students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab. The Supreme Court today refused to stay the NEET ordinance exempting these states for this year from the ambit of National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for medical colleges. Stating that this would create further confusion. For now, states can go ahead with their own separate medical examinations and they don't have to use the single NEET results for admitting students.  

    40,000 to attend Mamata's swearing in

    West Bengal's re-elected Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will be taking her oath today for a second term amidst her supporters who would witness the event to cheer on their leader. It is said that more than 40,000 people would be participating in the searing in ceremony. Banerjee now has 211 seats in the 294-member Bengal assembly, 35 members in the Lok Sabha and 12 members in the Rajya Sabha.

    Bihar's Ex-CM convoy set on fire

    Earlier today, scenes of another part of "Jungle Raj" saga played out in Bihar. Former Bihar chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's convoy was attacked in Dumaria in Gaya district of Bihar. Angry protesters pelted stones at his convoy and later set his escort vehicle on fire. Two bikes of policemen were also torched. His party's spokesperson Danish Rizwan said that the ex CM has been escorted to safety.

    PM Modi's government is celebrating its two years in office and on this occasion various agencies have been conducting polls to know who tops the best minister's list. And according to the polls conducted Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has been rated the best performing minister in Modi's cabinet followed by Power Minister Piyush Goyal, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

    The present government took charge on May 26, 2014 after Modi took the BJP-led NDA to a massive victory in the Lok Sabha elections. It has completed two years today. There have been certain projects which have caught the eye of the public and some which just did not impress them. A poll conducted about the same stated that NDA government's schemes and policies like Start-Up India, single-window clearance and banking reforms have caught the attention of the public. But the big disappointments have been the failure to get the GST Bill passed in Parliament, no major PSU divestment, slowdown in disposing litigation & dispute resolution, lack of labour law reforms and railways privatisation.

    Smriti Irani's sensational claims about Rahul

    Union minister for HRD Smriti Irani today inaugurated a rest house at a bus station in Salon, which falls in Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, which is represented by congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi. She said, "The work, which Congress could not do in past 60 years, the present Narendra Modi government has done only in two years. You all workers should be prepared for 2017 UP assembly polls." She also mentioned that because of this, she was able to reduce the winning margin of Rahul Gandhi by almost 80%.

    Pilot decides to crash lands in 10secs

    Captain Amit Kumar, the man who piloted the aircraft, which crash landed, and whose prompt decision-making saved the lives on board and avoided casualty on the ground on Tuesday, recalling the last moments said his aim was to ensure safety of people. He said, "The airplane had sufficient fuel. When the first engine collapsed, there was still possibility of making it to the airport, so we went ahead. Within another eight to ten minutes, the second engine also failed"

    The Congress launched a fierce attack on Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who is scheduled to host Narendra Modi government's second anniversary event. Congress is objecting to the actor being part of the Modi government's second anniversary celebrations on Saturday in light of his name figuring in the Panama Papers expose. 

    Naval officer molests junior

    According to a complainant, who is a Navy doctor, an officer, also a doctor and her senior, molested her twice recently, including at a top naval officer's house in the national capital. Sources said that the alleged incident happened at the residence Chief of Personnel Vice Admiral AR Karve. Karve was on duty at Vishakapatnam on the day the incident happened and his wife works and stays in Mumbai.

      The newly elected Congress MLAs in West Bengal have signed a written declaration on a stamp paper assuring that they would not leave the party. They have also given an undertaking to not make any anti-party remarks too. A written declaration not to leave the party sure seems to be a novel idea by the congress.

      Sunrisers Hyderabad have beat the two time champion team Kolkata Knight Riders by 22 runs, thereby sealing a place in the qualifier 2. They will be facing Gujarat Lion next. A win there will take them to the finals of the IPL. Yuvraj looked in vintage touch as he hit the bowler for consecutive fours in 17th over. Yuvraj Singh scored 30 ball 44.

    Jaya's dance show helped build a school

      A village in Karnataka is extremely happy after Jayalalithaa returned to power in Tamil Nadu. As a young Tamil star, Jaya had helped this village gather funds to build a school. On March 19, 1967, Jayalalithaa performed a dance for charity at the historic Crawford Hall in Mysore University. The tickets were priced at Rs 10, 25 and 50. The show was a huge success and it raised enough money for a school building at the village.
