  • Harmful Chemicals in Bread,Biscuits:Research

    A recent study conducted by the Centre for Science and Environment revealed that 84% of bread and bakery products samples collected from Delhi contained residues of Potassium Bromate and Potassium Iodate. According to International Agency for Research on Cancer, Potassium Bromate has been declared as possibly carcinogenic to humans. It has been banned from use in food products in the European Union, Canada, Nigeria, Brazil, South Korea, Peru and some other countries. It was banned in Sri Lanka in 2001 and in China in 2005. So, the next time you feel like gorging on your favorite bakes, be a little more cautious.

    BCCI names squad for West Indies tour

    BCCI selectors have picked up Shardul Thakur, who has been the leader of Mumbai's pace attack in domestic cricket, for India tour of West Indies, in which they will be playing 4 test matches. Virat Kohli will lead a 17-man squad. R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra complete the spin bowling. While Mohammed Shami and Shardul will give strength to the fast bowling along with Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

    Why is DMK Chief angry with Jaya?

    DMK chief M Karunanidhi is an angry man today. He has alleged that his party was insulted at the swearing-in ceremony of AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa as Tamil Nadu chief minister. He was furious about the seating arrangement made for his son MK Stalin . He said Stalin was made to sit among the crowd even as a losing candidate and AIADMK ally, R Sarath Kumar, was allotted seat in the front row.

    Dhoni to lead in Zimbabwe tour

    MS Dhoni will lead a young Indian ODI and Twenty20 international squad in next month's tour of Zimbabwe. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane have been rested for the tour. The new faces in the team include, Haryana legspinner Yuzvendra Chahal and off spinning allrounder Jayant Yadav, Vidarbha batsman Faiz Fazal, Punjab batsman Mandeep Singh and Karnataka's Karun Nair.

    Jaya closes 500 liquor shops in TN

    Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa after taking oath for the sixth time reduced the timing of liquor shops by two hours and closed 500 liquor shops in the state. This is part of her election promise. She also signed five welfare schemes as promised in the AIADMK manifesto.Liquor shops across the state will be opened only between 12 noon and 10pm which are opened from 10am and 10pm at present.

    Thunderstorm in Delhi, 1 dead

    After bearing a heat wave which was touching almost 50 degrees, Delhi temperatures cooled down. Even before the people could rejoice, a thunderstorm hit Delhi and NCR region. One person was killed and two others seriously injured after a signboard collapsed a mall in Noida due to thunderstorm which accompanied rain.Three other people were injured after a hoarding collapsed in Meerut due to thunderstorm.  

    Hyd: Man jumps into tiger enclosure in Zoo

    A man had jumped into the tiger enclosure in the Nehru Zoological park on sunday. Makes, 35 yrs, a native of Rajasthan was supposedly in a drunken condition and has apparently jumped in to shake hands with the tiger. The person was rescued unhurt by its keeper R Papaiah. The big cat had moved close to Mukesh but Papaiah diverted the lioness from him.

    Pilot mistook road for runway..!

    It has come to light in media today that an IndiGo airlines pilot mistook a road running parallel to the Jaipur airport as the runway while landing on February 27, 2016. The Ahmedabad-Jaipur flight was hardly 900 feet, or less than 1 and half minutes, away from touchdown when the enhanced ground proximity warning system blared in the cockpit. The alarms prompted the pilots to pull up barely a few hundred feet from the ground. The airline has stated that the pilots were taken off duty and that the safety of the crew and the passengers is of top priority to the airlines.

    Doctors to get "Soft Skills" training

    With the doctor and patient relation turning out to be not so cordial one. Now, doctors would be trained in soft skills, to respond better to the patient's issues. Professor Deepa Sethi from IIM Kozhikode who has designed the course after a national survey says, " Non-verbal communication has a special relevance in healthcare because patients pay close attention to the non-verbal signals of health professionals. They rely on these signals to gain trust before any verbal interaction takes place."

    Angry Camel Kills Owner Due To Heat

    A man in a Rajasthan village was killed by his angry camel which was left in the heat with its legs tied up by the owner. On Saturday night when he suddenly realized that his camel had been out in the heat all day with its legs tied, he tried to untie the annoyed animal which then attacked and killed him. There is heat wave in Rajasthan and some parts of the place have even reportedly crossed the 50 degrees mark as well.

    India's 46% docs in AP,Maha,TN,K'taka

    The poor ratio of doctors to patients in India, which is at 1:1,681, is hindering healthcare services across the country. The distribution of doctors in the country is so baised that, among the 9.5 lakh doctors just, four states, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and undivided Andhra Pradesh, have nearly 46% of all doctors registered in the country. This leaves bigger states like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and others with few doctors to share between them.

    Jawan found dead at Kochi Naval Base

    Naik Sivadasan K (53), a Defence Security Corps (DSC) jawan, was found dead with gunshot wounds late in the night on Sunday. He was on duty at Kochi naval base. The reason of the firing is being probed into by the officials. The deceased belongs to Thrissur and is survived by his wife and two married daughters

    Jaya gives free TV's but No Electricity

    The residents of the tribal villages of Sembukkarai and Thoomanur in the Western Ghats in Coimbatore district say they've been receiving freebies as gifts from the AIADMK and DMK for the past 10 years during the election time. Gifts include  Television sets, fans, blenders and table-top grinders, but the irony is there is no electricity in this area to use them. They don't have electricity now and have not had electricity since independence.

    ISRO successfully launches space shuttle

    The first ever 'Made in India' space shuttle called the Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV-TD) was successfully test-launched early this morning from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh by The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This is the first time ISRO launched a winged flight vehicle, which after its launch, came back and landed on a virtual runway in the Bay of Bengal, some 500 kilometres from the coast.  

    AP CM announces Vijayawada City Square

    Vijayawada city will soon have a new icon in the form of a City Square that will be built under the Public-Private Partnership initiative at the Swarajya Maidan in the heart of the city. Guizhou International Investment Corporation of China has designed the City Square that will come up on a five-acre land at an estimated cost of Rs 135 crore. "The City Square will be a jewel in APs crown and be a large tourist attraction," Naidu said on the occasion. Vijayawada, the second largest city in AP, is currently serving as the "functional capital" of the state    

    AP CM is missing his wife & grandson

    Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu has been a busy man ever since he has taken up the coveted position as the head of the new formed state. At the press conference in Amaravati yesterday in which he took the decision of transferring all the AP Employees from Hyderabad to Amaravati by June 27, he said at least employees have weekends to spend with family and relax. With his packed schedule he is staying in most of the time in Amarvathi and hence is unable to spend enough time with his young grandson as well. He said he has been missing his wife over the past 25 years as he has been occupied with his administration work while his wife is busy touring India on business visits.

    Kiran Bedi new L-G of Puducherry

    The government today appointed former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. She was the BJP's chief ministerial candidate in the last Delhi elections, which the party lost to Arvind Kejriwal's AAP. In the recently concluded elections the Congress-DMK combine won in Puducherry, securing a simple majority of 17 in the 30-member assembly.

    Made in India Shuttle takes off tomorrow

    India's space agency ISRO is preparing to launch its space shuttle prototype RLV-TD or the Reusable Launch Vehicle from its rocket port  on Monday. The first such flight, which will be a technology demonstrator, will be launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre,Sriharikota. The entire test flight will take about 10 minutes.

    In 2yrs Assam's border with Bangladesh sealed

    Outgoing Sports Minister and Assam's Chief Minister-to-be Sarbananda Sonowal on saturday said that sealing of the borders with Bangladesh in two years and completion of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) will be done to put an end to infiltration. He was quoted as saying, "We have promised to the people of Assam that the two key priorities of our government would be complete sealing of the border and completion of NRC before the elections. Therefore, we are obliged to doing them and show to the people that we are sincere to our promises."
