  • French Open:Sania advances to 2nd round

      It was a good day at the FrenchOpen for the Indian players. Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes advanced to the second round with their respective partners on Wednesday. Sania Mirza with Martina Hingis had a score line of 7-6(4) 6-2 in the opening round. Sania and Martina are the top seeds for the tournament.

    Women forced into prostitution in Anantapur

      Drought, zero agricultural activity and the subsequent loss of income has led to a massive crisis in several villages of Andhra Pradesh's Anantpur district. It goes beyond poverty, beyond want of food and shelter and takes on dimensions of social degradation. Women in Andhra Pradesh's Anantpur district are being forced into prostitution to make ends meet. It has come at a heavy price too. They are being seen as a social outcast, stigmatised and branded. They fears for their life now.

    Hyd man hugs to get Guinness World Record

      Krishna Kumar from Hyderabad has managed to get a Guinness World Record for the number of hugs one can manage to give in a minute. He gave a stunning 79 hugs in one minute to be more precise. It is one weird world record for sure. So the next time you want a quick hug, he is the man  to go to!

    Half of the world using WhatsApp:Survey

      According to a recently conducted survey by a digital market firm, 109 countries across the world are now using WhatsApp, the world's most popular messaging app. Facebook-owned Whatsapp is installed on 94.8% of all Android devices and is used for an average of 37 minutes daily, according to the report. India, Brazil, Mexico, UK, Russia, and several countries in South America are the strongest user base of the messaging app.

    Google's head accepts he uses an iPhone

      Eric Schmidt, the chief executive for Alphabet and former Google boss, triggered laughter at a meet when he revealed he had an iPhone, which is made by his rival, Tim Cook's company Apple, in his pocket as well as a Samsung. As it is know, both Schmidt and Cook are always on the opposite paths. At the top of the corporate world, Apple and Google are in a in a competition always to be number one.

    Hyd: 2 Trucks smash car,all 5 killed

      A car coming from Hyderabad, going towards Nizamabad was crushed between two Trucks. All the 5 passengers were killed on the spot. The car got sandwiched between the two vehicles and got completely crushed. Those in the truck have been injured and admitted to a nearby hospital. In a video grab of the accident the car is seen overtaking a truck from the left side at a crossing. But fails to do so and hits the truck. Meanwhile, another truck coming from the opposite side also collides with the car and truck.

    Virat Kohli says he is not the best

    Virat Kohli, who is in the form of his life, said that he does not think he is the best. But in fact his RCB team mate is the best for cricketer according to him. Especially after he made his team win the match yesterday to take them to finals of the competition. He said, "That ends the debate who is the best. I bow down to the big man (De Villiers). Come the big game, AB stands up. One of the best knock under pressure. Really happy for him, Kohli said about his team-mate." He said he could see that the opposition was worried about AB.

    CCTV cameras for women safety in buses

    Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari said that It will be mandatory for public transport buses to install emergency buttons, CCTV cameras and vehicle tracking devices to ensure safety of women commuters and the government will issue notification on these norms on June 2. Gadkari said that in case of any untoward event a woman passenger would be able to press the emergency button which in turn will transfer the information to the nearest local police station via the GPS.

    Samsung launches 'Made In india' tab

    Korean company Samsung has launched it first ever Made In India tab called "Samsung Galaxy Tab Iris." Targeting the Indian market that features iris-recognition technology "that is ready for Aadhaar authentication through an integrated and highly secure biometric device. Galaxy Tab Iris offers cashless and paperless services in different applications dealing with banking, eGovernance services and more. The tab is priced at Rs 13,499.  

    Microsoft to fire 1500 employees

    Microsoft corporation has a announced that they will be laying off 1500 employees from their firm, most of them from their Finland office. This will be from their smartphone segment operation. Microsoft said it will continue to develop Windows 10 Mobile platform and support its Lumia smartphones, but declined to say whether it would develop new phones. Microsoft had earlier acquired mobile phone company Nokia which is based out of Finland.

    New Kerala CM sworn in

    72-year-old CPM leader, Pinarayi Vijayan, today took oath as the 12th chief minister of Kerala along with 18 ministers at the Central Stadium on Wednesday. CPM-led LDF had been voted to power by winning 91 seats in the 140-member Kerala assembly defeating Oommen Chandy's Congress-led UDF government. Which could manage only 47 MLAs. BJP got one seat and another independent candidate won another seat.

    Fashion designer exploited in Hyderabad

    A fashion designers dreams came crashing down in Hyderabad for some very disturbing reasons. 30 year old Husna Begum's effort to help her family financially by traveling to Saudi Arabia for a job led to her being kept as a slave at Hafar Al Batin, about 490 km from Dammam. A resident of Hasan Nagar locality in Rajendranagar, Husna has in the past two weeks sent two WhatsApp videos to her family and appealed to the Indian government to rescue her from her employer Abu Saif. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments are making all efforts to put in place systems to check complaints of harassment and non-payment of wages by employers in Gulf nations.

    Sensex crosses 500 points

    The BSE Sensex breached the 500 points this afternoon, riding on positive global cues and value buying. Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) edged up by 158.10 points or 2.04 percent, at 7,906.95 points. All sectoral indices, led by realty, IT and banking, were in the green. BSE, which opened 25,432.10 points at 25,861.40 points, traded at 25,861.40 points (1.55 p.m.) up 555 points from the previous close at 25,305.47 points.  

    IIM asks Flipkart for guaranteed jobs

    IIM Ahmedabad has written a strong worded letter to the top management of Flipkart to honor the joining date that they have mentioned in the offer letters to the students. This comes after  Flipkart told new campus recruits that it was deferring their joining dates to December from June due to a restructuring exercise.The letter said that the delay should be shortened and said the compensation of Rs 1.5 lakh offered by Flipkart was "utterly unacceptable." Compensation should be in the form of a monthly payment starting from June it said.

    Power Minister Goyal nominated to RS

    Bhartiya Janata Party has nominated Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal as its candidate from Maharashtra for the Rajya Sabha election. The elections are slated for June 11. Maharashtra has six Rajya Sabha seats which are up for grabs. The number of votes required to win the election by a candidate is said to be 42. 55 Rajya Sabha members from 15 states are retiring between June and August and hence the necessity for these elections. 

    Sunrisers play KKR;IPL eliminator today

    Sunrisers Hyderabad today will be looking at defeating two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders to get one step closer to the Final of this season IPL. KKR have a slight edge over the Sunrisers as they have beaten them on both the occasions during the league stage. After 2013, this is the first time Sunrisers managed to get a playoff berth and are rearing to go. Under the able captaincy of David Warner, the team looks to decimate Kolkata tonight. 

    Tendulkar's son picked for U-16 squad

    Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar's son Arjun has been picked for the U-16 West Zone squad for the inter-zonal tournament. The tournament will be played at Hubli from 24th May. The squad, announced by Baroda Cricket Association secretary Snehal Parikh, was selected by the All India Junior Selection Committee on Monday. OM Bhosale will lead the team for the tournament which concludes on 6th June.

    BCCI to take action against Gayle?

    There seems to be no end to Chris Gayle misery of late. This is all thanks to his uncalled for remarks and comments with foreign female journalists. Recently the Big Bash League in Australia decided not to renew its contract with Gayle and now BCCI is looking to take some action against him too. When asked about this, Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman, Rajeev Shukla said, "The players must behave. We expect the players to adhere to a certain kind of behaviour when the tournament is on." And that once the IPL is over they will look into this matter and take it up with his IPL team RCB.

    Virat out on Duck; Cricket fans stunned

    In a high pressure match between Virat Kohli's Royal Challengers Bangalore and Suresh Raina's Gujarat Lions every ball was  counted. To the dismay of the crickets fans all over, Virat Kohli who was just 81 runs to breach the unthinkable 1000-run mark in an IPL season got out on a duck. But his team with the help of AB de villiers stunning knock made it straight to the finals. But the fact that Virat was out on a duck sent shock waves on twitter.
