  • 134 men shave heads for Jaya TN win

    The AIADMK won 134 seats in the 232 Assembly in the recently concluded elections and the party cadre celebrated the win in a rather bizarre way. As many as 134 members of the AIADMK shaved their heads to celebrate the victory of Jayalalithaa who took charge as Tamil Nadu chief minister for the sixth time on Monday. 134  is the exact number of the constituencies her party won in the state Assembly election.

    No Chris Gayle in Big Bash League!

    Big Bash League team Melbourne Renegades has decided against signing the powerful batsman Chris Gayle after he got into yet another controversy. Gayle also faces possible censure from his English county club Somerset when he arrives in the UK following his latest controversial remarks to a female journalist in that country. He has since said the comments not made seriously and were made just to have a bit of fun.   

    Vizag Chemical tanker explosion;1 Dead

    A chemical tanker exploded at a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Vizag, killing one and injuring 15 others,police said. The injured have been taken to the nearby hospital. The incident took place around 11 AM in Paravada mandal in the city outskirts when nearly 35 workers were on duty and a tanker containing ammonia exploded.   

    Olympic winners could get Khel Ratna,Arjuna

    In a bid to boost the morale and spirit of the Rio Olympic contingent and in order get the immediate recognition they deserve, the sports ministry today announced that the medal winners from the upcoming Rio Games will be considered for this year's Khel Ratna and Arjuna Awards. The ministry said: "Medal winners in team events, who have played stellar roles in the medal won by the team for the country in Rio Olympics 2016 such as number of goals scored, number of goals saved etc., and who have already not been conferred with Arjuna Award in the past will be considered for Arjuna Awards."   

    No medical common entrance test this year

      President Pranab Mukherjee today signed the ordinance to keep state boards out of the common entrance test (NEET) for MBBS and dental courses for this year. The President was briefed by Union Health Minister J P Nadda yesterday mainly on three issues including different exams of state boards, syllabi and regional languages. This was followed by another briefing by officials after which the file was taken back by the Health Ministry last night only to return this morning with additional information and legal advice. This comes as a relief to the parents and students who fate was handing in the balance for quite sometime with regards to the common entrance test.

    China wants Rail link to India

    China is now looking to stretch its railway link to Bihar to improve connectivity with India and South Asia, state-run Chinese media reported on Tuesday. China already has its influence in Nepal with road and rail network through Tibet.  According to sources China's railroad is expected to reach Nepal border by 2020.

    Air ambulance crash lands in Delhi

    An air ambulance carrying seven people on board crash landed in Najafgarh area of South West Delhi, according to Delhi Police. The chartered plane of Alchemist airlines was coming from Patna. Though all the seven passengers have been rushed to the the nearby hospital, the police said that one of them has sustained major injuries. Further details on the same are awaited.

    90% blind boy scores 97% in 12th boards

    Rakshit Malik who is 90% visually impaired has passed his 12th standard CBSE exams with flying colors. He scored  97.4% in the exam, which made him top his school. Rakshit's mother and teachers seem to have helped him realize his dreams. And this is what he had to say. “I never took any coaching classes. If it were my teachers who would read out my lessons for me during extra hours in school, I had my mother at home who would sit with me and ensure that I don’t have a problem”

    Toilet named after him;Rishi Kapoor proud

    Congress supporters recently named a toilet in Uttar Pradesh in the name of Rishi Kapoor who went on against Congress for naming everything in the country in the Gandhi family's name. To this Rishi reacted by saying: "I am thrilled. At least I will be of some use to someone. These people (Congress loyalists) are of no use to anyone. I take pride in the fact that the Sulabh Shauchalaya is named after me because it is the Prime Minister’s pet project right now."

    1,400km Link road for India,Thailand,Myanmar

      In a first of its kind a 1400 Kms link road would be worked on by the governments of India, Thailand and Myanmar to connect Southeast Asia by land. "There has always been a meeting of minds between India and Thailand. Our two countries share cultural, spiritual and linguistic links. With this road we will also have physical connectivity," Indian Ambassador to Thailand, Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi said.

    Kerala bans Diesel vehicles

      The National Green Tribunal banned light and heavy diesel vehicles which are more than 10 years old in Kerala. The order also prevented the state government from registering new diesel vehicles of 2000 cc and above, except those in the public transport and government sector. After a notice period of one month, the vehicles found violating the order will be fined Rs 5,000 as environmental compensation.

    Obama will not say Sorry

    Barack Obama will become the first sitting US president to tour the site of the world’s first nuclear bombing this Friday, accompanied by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe. Obama said on Sunday his visit to Hiroshima, the first city to suffer an atomic bombing, would emphasize friendly ties between former enemies. But the US president reiterated he would not apologize for the devastating attack.

    Cong names toilet after Rishi Kapoor

      Taking Rishi Kapoor's statement on naming roadways, airports and railway stations on prominent people's names quite seriously, the congress supporters in Uttar Pradesh have named a Sulabh toilet in the name of Rishi. Protesters said that the naming of prominent places in the name of Gandhi family is justified as the country prospered after achieving freedom due to them. Kapoor had recently taken to Twitter and questioned the naming of important places after Gandhi family members.

    Kiran Bedi to be sworn in on 29th May

      The newly appointed Lt Governor of Puducherry, Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, will be sworn in at a function in New Delhi on May 29. Bedi will be fourth woman Lt Governor of Puducherry. Bedi, a BJP leader has earlier fought the Delhi elections against Kejriwal.

    No refund for electronics bought online

      In an interesting development online shopping giant Amazon India has made an important change to its return policy for electronic items. As per the new guidelines , electronics are no longer eligible for refunds. However, customers can still get defective items replaced. It needs to be seen as to how the customers would take to this decision and how it would impact future sale of electronics on the company's website.

    Indian climber dies on Mount Everest

      Subash Paul, an Indian climber has died and two others have gone missing on Mount Everest an expedition organizer has said on Monday, taking the death toll from the ongoing Himalayan climbing season to the world's highest peak to five. Subash who had fallen sick and was being taken down to safety, he lost his life last night while being rescued to lower camps from near the summit point, Gyanendra Shrestha, an official said.

    Delhi people to get money for Power cuts

    Several areas across the national capital are suffering power outages. Facing criticism for the power situation, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has maintained that outages are not due to a shortage of power but due to poor maintenance companies supplying power. The Delhi government said the companies would be penalised and made to compensate consumers for unscheduled power cuts.

    Free Gold for Married Women in TN:Jaya

    Just after the swearing in ceremony in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister,J Jayalalitha, who is sworn in for the second consecutive term, passed orders to fulfill her election promises. One of them being free 8 grams gold for women for 'mangalsutram'. She also waived off crop loans of farmers and also announced 100 units free electricity to consumers. Jayalalitha went straight to the state Secretariat and signed files to fulfil five of her electoral promises as mentioned in her party manifesto, just after the swearing in ceremony.

    Cong,BJP relationship like Husband-wife

    Addressing the Aam Aadmi volunteers, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the congress and the BJP have a relationship similar to husband and wife. He said, "I feel both the parties have a husband-wife kind of a relationship. Mister and Missus BJP-Congress. They are like husband and wife fighting inside the house. They know each other's secrets". He was also quoted as saying that both the parties share good relations and are fooling the people.
