  • Hidden cams in dance bars:Mumbai Police

    Social Service Branch (SSB) of the Mumbai police armed with a strong legislation and hidden cameras has been going after dance bars which are being operated illegally in the city. From May 13, when the SSB received a copy of the law passed by the Maharashtra government, it has carried out 13 raids, arrested at least 300 persons and rescued 95 bar dancers. This act has allowed them to give the culprits stricter punishment unlike before.

    Saina & Srikanth into Aus Open Semis

    Telugu states have some good news to look forward to, Hyderabad's Saina Nehwal and Guntur's Srikanth have made to the semi finals of the Australian Super Series Badminton tournament. In an exciting quarterfinal between Olympic bronze medallist Saina and 2013 World Champion Ratchanok, it was the seventh seeded Indian who managed to beat the second seed 28-26 21-16 after a 56-minute hard-fought women's singles battle. In the men's singles, World No. 13 Srikanth disposed off Korea's Kwang Hee Heo 21-18 21-17 in 36 minutes.

    'She cabs' Flop show in Hyderabad

      In November 2015, She Cabs were started amidst much fanfare. But looks like there are no takers for this concept in Hyderabad. According to the Cyberabad Traffic police only 4,623 trips have been made by women cabbies, at the pre-paid booth in RGIA. The reasons for the low numbers could be that some drivers have been involved in minor accidents and many avoid peak hour traffic or have given up driving. Sources say that many have not been given proper training. Currently only 6 cabs are operating in the city limits.

    K'taka Govt removes cartoon on Rahul Gandhi

      Satish Acharya, a noted cartoonist from Karnataka is under fire from the ruling Congress government in the state for making and displaying a cartoon in which Rahul Gandhi is seen hiding from PM Modi. The cartoonist, has a fixed hoarding named Cartoon Corner and displays some of his best works there. Kundapura municipality removed Rahul's carton and defended the action saying that they have removed all hoardings and billboards to beautify the town.

    Leader Paes out of Olympic race due to Politics?

      India's tennis star Rohan Bopanna has picked young Saketh Myneni over the legendary Leander Paes on Friday, as his mens doubles partner at the Olympic games this year. Bopanna, who has secured a direct entry for Rio Olympics courtesy his top-10 ranking, has the right to nominate a partner for himself. This politics amongst the players may see one of the India's biggest sports star, Leander, stay out of the Olympic medal race.

    US's stern warning to Pakistan

      The United States of America has sent stern warning to Pakistan about home grown terror. The US has asked Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used for planning attacks in India, after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said terrorism is being "incubated in India's neighbourhood". US has asked Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used to plan attacks in India and that Pakistan should take steps to address or to go after all the terrorist groups that are currently using its territory for launching terror attacks.

    Federer Backs Sharapova's Doping Ban

      Maria Sharapova who was banned for two years on doping charges on Wednesday received no sympathy from fellow tennis superstar Roger Federer, who said he backs a "zero tolerance" stance against doping. "It doesn't matter if they did it on purpose or not I don't really see the difference. You need to know what goes into your body, you have to be 100% sure of what's going on, if you're not, you're going to be damned," Roger said.

    Hindu temple worker murdered in Bangladesh

      Police officials said that Nityaranjan Pandey of Thakur Anukul Chandra Satsanga Paramtirtha Hemayetpurdham ashram was attacked by several assailants who hacked him in the neck and killed him. The 60 year old man was a worker at the Ashram and was out for the morning walk when this incident occurred. This comes days after another priest was killed by suspected ISIS jihadists in the Muslim-majority nation of Bangladesh.

      Harbhajan Singh's wife Geeta Basra's family threw a baby shower for the mom-to-be on June 4. As it was a 'ladies only' function, Harbhajan was not the part of the ceremony.     Home minister to be UP's CM candidate?

      Rajnath Singh, the Union home minister, could be the BJP's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. The decision could be formalized at the meeting of top party leaders at the BJP's two-day national executive meeting in Allahabad from Sunday. Rajnath Singh previously served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from October 2000 to March 2002 and as a Cabinet Minister in the Vajpayee Government.

    Jaitley: Drastic reforms in Censor board soon

      In the wake of the controversy surrounding the censor board and the producers of the movie Udtha Punjab, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley  on Monday said movie certification norms have to be liberal and “some very radical changes” will be announced over the next few days.He Stated that he was 'not satisfied' with the existing system of film certification and that there are some changes that are about be made in the functioning of the board.  

    Indian Woman kidnapped in Kabul

      An Indian woman working with an international NGO has been reportedly kidnapped in Kabul. The woman from Kolkata was working for Aga Khan Foundation , Afghanistan. She was abducted on Thursday night. Sources said that the Indian embassy is in touch with the Afghan authorities to ensure her safe release.

    Fire at Tirumala Temple

      At least three fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames at Tirumala. A fire broke out at the Tirumala temple this early this morning at the prasadam making place. The fire department has claimed that the situation is under control. A short circuit is likely to be the reason of the fire. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam's executive officer visited the kitchen and took stock of the situation.

    India's first Day & Night Test at Eden Garden

      According to reports, iconic stadium of Kolkata, Eden Gardens ground will play host to the first ever day-night Test in the country when India take on New Zealand later this year. New Zealand will play three Test matches and five One-Day Internationals here. A top official from the CAB has been quoted as saying, "We had written to the BCCI and they have accepted our request. Eden Gardens will host the day-night Test against New Zealand. This is fantastic news."

      Prime Minister Modi made a historic speech at the US congress yesterday. And it clearly won many hearts as several lawmakers were seen asking the PM for his autograph. This picture that appeared in New York Times' front page on Thursday, of him being surrounded by Congressmen seeking his autograph, is a proof of the fact that Modi stole the show with his eloquent speech.

    Kerala Minister insults Female Olympian

      Arjuna awardee Anju Bobby George accused Kerala Sports Minister E P Jayarajan of allegedly insulting her with “corruption” charges. The Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also came out in support of his Cabinet colleague. Anju, an Olympian, who is also the President of the Kerala Sports Council, said she had complained to the chief minister regarding the issue. “We are doing our duty. If the government is not ready to accept that, they can ask us to leave. But instead, calling all of us corrupt is not acceptable,” she said.

    Amazon to invest $3 billion more in India

      Jeff Bezos, Amazon Inc's Chief Executive Officer, said that the company would invest an additional $3 billion in India, taking its committed investment in the country to over $5 billion. In an event in Washington attended by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi he said that India was Amazon's fastest growing region.   He also mentioned that Amazon would open a Web Services Cloud Region in India this year and the country would soon become home to the firm's largest software engineering and development center outside of the United States, which is located in Hyderabad.

    Calcutta University: Canteen Only for Ladies

      Calcutta University Vice Chancellor Sugata Marjit recently inaugurated a canteen in the premises and there is already a lot of anger among the students. The Left controlled students wing, SFI, however, sees this as an attempt at moral policing and an overall plan to control free mixing. Whatever might have been the reason for the divide, girls have decided to boycott the canteen since they find it demeaning.

    Maruti Ertigas & Tabs for Bengaluru cops

      In a bid to modernize the police system, the Karnataka government has provided the police department with tablet equipped Maruti Suzuki Ertigas. The new cars will replace Mahindra Boleros which are said to be in a bad condition. Each of the 222 Ertigas has been fitted with 7 inch, all-weather tablets which are shockproof, dustproof and waterproof. This in order to have better coordination between the teams.
