  • KL Rahul creates history for India

    Karnataka player KL Rahul created history on Saturday when he became the first Indian to score a hundred on One-Day International debut. Overall, he became the 11th player to achieve the feat on debut. Rahul took 115 balls to reach the landmark as he steadily took India to the finish line, chasing 169 for a win in the first ODI against Zimbabwe in Harare. His knock had seven fours and a one six that was also the winning runs for the visiting side.

    Shooting at a US gay nightclub,many injured

    According to local media reports number of people were reported to have been shot early on Sunday at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The violence erupted at the nightclub and the owners of the nightclub urged people in the club to “get out” and “keep running", in a post on its Facebook page. A number of people, ranging from seven to as many as 20, had been shot but there were no confirmed deaths as yet. It is also being reported that a number of people have been held hostage by the shooter in the club.

    Yoga has been one of the most popular ways of staying fit and healthy in the western countries. One such person, a Canadian Engineer created a device to help us breath better, inspired by Yoga. 22-year-old Cindy Gu, has created a smart belt coupled with a mobile app that found its “inspiration” in pranayama, a basic aspect of yoga. The belt, understands the user’s breathing pattern and when there are irregularities in that pattern, that’s when the device will signal to the user with a feedback. 

    Saina Nehwal Wins Australian Open Title

    India's badminton sensation Saina Nehwal won her first title of the season in Sydney on Sunday, beating China’s Sun Yu in three games to claim the $750,000 Australian Open Super Series. Saina won 11-21, 21-14, 21-19 in an encounter that lasted 1 hour, 12 minutes. The 2012 London Olympics bronze medal winner now has two wins at the Australian Open in the past three years.

    Kanhaiya's Sedition clips authentic:Police

    In a new twist to the Kanhaiya controversy police on Saturday claimed that the video footage of the controversial 9 February JNU event, on which a sedition case was registered against JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and two others, has been found to be "authentic" by the CBI forensic lab. "The CBI lab sent a report to Delhi Police's Special Cell on 8 June saying the raw footage was authentic," a police source said.

    Champions trophy Hockey:India Beat England

    Indian hockey team beat Great Britain 2-1 to clinch victory in the 36th Champions Trophy on Saturday, putting them at the top of the league standings with four points. Against Germany, on Friday, India had drawn 3-3 and with the victory against Great Britain they now top the table with four points. India opened their scoring through Mandeep Singh (17th minute) with Harmanpreet Singh getting the second goal (34th minute).

    Rs 1,411Cr of Mallya's properties attached by ED

    Properties worth over Rs 1,411 crore have been attached by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday, in the IDBI Bank loan default case. The assets under "provisional attachment" included bank balance of Rs 34 crore, a flat each in Bengaluru and Mumbai (2,291 sqft and 1,300 sqft respectively), an industrial plot in Chennai (4.5 acres), a coffee plantation land in Coorg (28.75 acres) and residential and commercial constructed areas in UB CITY and Kingfisher Tower in Bengaluru (84,0279 sqft).

    Twitter hits back at Kejriwal

    Aam Aadmi Party chief and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal is turning out to be the hot favorite of the internet trolls these days, with almost anything that he posts on twitter turning out to be a internet joke. Something similar happened on June 10 when Kejriwal tweeted a hindi poem of sorts tagging PM Modi in it, perhaps referring to the ongoing Udta Punjab controversy where his party was rumoured to pay the filmmakers to spoil the image of the current Punjab government, which the producer of the movie, Anurag Kashyap outrightly denied. His tweet then went viral on social media and the hashtag #KejriwalShayaris topped the trending list with people tweeting funny poems in English and Hindi and trolling CM. Twitter surely didn't take kindly to this tweet of Kejriwal.

    SRH's Mustafizur Rahman in pain due to IPL

    Mustafizur Rahman was the star performer for Sunrisers Hyderabad in their IPL win this year. But all thanks to his stint in IPL he is in a lot of pain. The young pacer started a two week rehabilitation programme to cure an injured hamstring and ankle he picked up during the Indian Premier League. Playing 16 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mustafizur took enormous workload on himself for the team.  

    India win its first match against Zimbabwe

    India thrashed Zimbabwe by nine wickets in the first match to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match one-day international series at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. In a match winning performance KL Rahul became the first Indian to score a hundred on ODI debut. He was unbeaten on 100. Ambati Rayudu gave him ample support at the other end with an unbeaten 62 runs. Jasprit Bumrah’s four-wicket haul helped India bowl out the hosts for 168 runs earlier in the game. 

    Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday celebrations start

    Its Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday, and weekend of celebrations have kickstarted with a lot of fanfare in Buckingham Palace. It was a double celebration for the royals as the Duke of Edinburgh, also celebrated his 95th birthday. The monarch, the first to reach the milestone age, was joined by top royals including William, Kate and Harry, as well as religious leaders and politicians including British Prime Minister David Cameron.  

    Boy expelled from school for having ponytail

      A kindergarten student allegedly expelled in a private school because he has a ponytail. The school located in Bangalore, told the father of the boy that rules did not allow boys to sport ponytails and hence they are expelling the LKG student. Though the father explained that his son is three-and-a-half years old, and the family's custom was to cut a boy's hair only after he turned five and offer it to the family deity, the school did not care to listen to him and has also returned the school fee.

    Haryana:Teachers banned from wearing Jeans

      In a shocking incident, the education department in Haryana has banned school teachers from wearing jeans while at work or while visiting the Directorate in capital Chandigarh. The order has been issued to elementary and middle school teachers. Though a specific reason for this decision was not mentioned, the order just said wearing jeans to work was not appropriate and the teachers should wear formal clothes.

    Worship your manhood says VHP leader

      In a bizarre statement, VHP leader Pravin Togadia on Friday, blamed the growing impotency among Hindu men for the decline in share of the community in the country’s population. He later added, “go home and worship your manhood”. He cited various other reasons for the population decline such as “love jihad” and conversion to Christianity. He also asked Hindu couples to have more kids to tackle this problem.

    TN teacher burns students' feet as punishment

      In a horrific incident, a class teacher of a government primary school in a village in Tamil Nadu, burned camphor powder on the feet of 13 students to punish them for failing to answer questions during the inspection of an Assistant Education Officer. According to the police, the teacher gave the punishment after she reportedly faced the anger from a senior education department official during an inspection held at the school.

    Voting underway for 27 Rajya Sabha Seats

      The voting for the Rajya Sabha seats has started on Saturday morning. Seven states are scheduled to go to polls to elect 27 Rajya Sabha members. Polling began at Assembly premises in the state capitals at 9 AM and will continue till 4 PM. Of the 27 seats, 11 seats are from Uttar Pradesh, four each from Karnataka and Rajasthan, three from Madhya Pradesh, two each from Haryana and Jharkhand and one from Uttarakhand. The counting of votes will be taken up at 5 pm.

    Star Singer shot dead at Concert

      Popular US singer Christina Grimmie has died after being shot at a concert venue in Florida. A gunman opened fire at the concert venue as the singer was signing autographs for fans after a show, killing the star of the reality singing show 'The Voice' before shooting and killing himself, officials said Saturday. The singer was 22 years of age and her fans across the globe are in disbelief on hearing about the news of her death.

    Indian Tennis contingent for Olympics announced

      All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Saturday announced a four member tennis team to represent India at the Rio Olympics. Leander Paes has been picked to partner Rohan Bopanna in the men's doubles draw. While, Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna have been paired for the mixed doubles. Sania will play with Prarthna Thombare in the women's doubles. The pair had won a Bronze medal at Asiad 2014.

    Leander Paes to play in Olympics!!

      In a great news for Indian Tennis fans, Leander Paes is all set to play in his seventh Olympics after the All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Saturday ignored Rohan Bopanna's request and picked the tennis ace as his doubles partner. The AITA rejected Bopanna's request for Saket Myneni as his partner, saying that India's best chance for a medal at Rio lay in him teaming up with Paes, who won the French Open mixed doubles title earlier this month.
