    Virat Kohli Foundation and Abhishek Bachchan’s ‘Playing for Humanity’ joined hands to hold a charity football match which also featured limited overs captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni apart from and top Bollywood actors including Ranbir Kapoor and Abhishek himself playing the match on an action-packed starry night. The game ended in a 2-2 draw.  

    Volkswagen to recall 1.9 Lakh Indian cars

    Volkswagen on Saturday said it will recall 1.90 lakh cars sold in the country starting next month to fix the emission software. "Starting from the second half of 2016, Volkswagen will recall 1.90 lakh cars and continue till ten months," Volkswagen India head of marketing Kamal Basu told in a statement. Starting from July, communication would be sent to the customers regarding this and also to make them understand that the recall was purely voluntary in nature, Basu added.  

    French Open: Serena losses in final

    Top seed Serena Williams was defeated by Garbine Muguruza. Garbine's score read 7-5, 6-4 to clinch her maiden French Open title. With this, she became the first Spanish player since Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario to win at Roland Garros. Twelve years younger than the American at 22, and playing in the first claycourt final of her career, the Venezuelan-born Spaniard made an upset.

    Mohammed Ali is from Kerala:State Minister

    Kerala Industry and Sports Minister EP Jayarajan in his obituary reference on late boxing legend Muhammed Ali made a bizarre remark. He then made a complete mess by saying that, "Ali was an eminent sports personality of Kerala and is one who has won a gold medal thereby raising Kerala's position in the world." As he was going ahead, the TV news anchor acted swiftly to save the minister further embarrassment and cut the audio.

    Hema Malini gets targeted on Twitter

      The actress, who came under criticism for tweeting pictures of her upcoming movie when Mathura was hit by one of the worst violence, had yesterday defended herself saying that she was unaware of the happenings as she was busy in her shooting. Hema Malini, 67, deleted the photos and then left Mumbai for Mathura, but seemed undisturbed by accusations of both insensitivity and deep negligence of her constituency in its hour of need. "What do I have to do (with it)," she said. "Our people are there, Akhilesh Yadav's government has to handle this," she said.

    Hema Malini demands CBI probe

      Hema Malini who is under fire for posting pictures of her movie shoot at a time when her Parliamentary constituency Mathura was hit by violence, has demanded for a CBI probe into the whole incident. She said that the state government should have taken proper action to eradicate encroachment. She said that only after the High Court order, they tried to remove the protestors. "The BJP demands a CBI enquiry into the whole incident,” she said.

    PM inaugurates Afgan-India friendship dam

      Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday jointly inaugurated a landmark dam in the history. A Rs 1,700 crore showpiece infrastructure project by India in strategically important Herat province, reflecting India's strong commitment to reconstruction of the war-ravaged country.The Afghan-India Friendship Dam, earlier known as Salma Dam, on river Chist-e-Sharif in western Herat neighbouring Iran, will irrigate 75,000 hectares of land and generate 42 MW of power.

    At 74, Boxing Legend Muhammad Ali Dies

      The 74-year-old icon the greatest of them all, the boxing legend Muhammad Ali passed away on Saturday fighting a respiratory ailment. He was hospitalized on Thursday. Media in US had reported that his respiratory trouble was complicated by his Parkinson's disease. Ali's diagnosis of Parkinson's came three years after he left boxing. He received the highest US civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, in 2005.

    Controversial BJP Minister resigns

      Eknath Khadse', top Maharashtra minister's resignation has come as a big blow to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. It is the first major resignation of a BJP leader after Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power two years ago. After late Gopinath Munde, Khadse has been the second most important mass leader of the BJP in Maharashtra.

    No Power; 20,000 people suffer in France

      With floods and heavy rains lashing France, a French energy company says that more than 20,000 customers are without power because of the on going situation. French President Francois Hollande has said that a "natural disaster" will be formally declared next week in a Cabinet meeting for areas most affected by the flooding that has hit Paris and France's central regions.

    Pak father has 35 kids,wants 100 kids

      Sardar Jan Mohammad Khilji, 46, from Pakistan, says he believes it is his religious duty to have as many children as possible. A father of 35 already, is now searching for a fourth wife as he wants to achieve his goal of 100 children, an ambition in the conservative Muslim country where polygamy is still practiced. Pakistani men are permitted to take up to four wives under Islam, though to do so they must seek permission from their first wife and an arbitration council.

    IIT students detained in Italy

      Three IIT students were released hours later after the Indian mission in Rome intervened as they were wrongfully detained on Thursday by the police in Ventimiglia town in country's northern part near the French-Italian border. IIT students were on a trip to Italy. Two students are from IIT Delhi and one is from IIT Bombay were visiting Italy as tourists and carrying valid passports with Schengen visas. After being detained at Ventimiglia railway station, the three students were flown along with other detainees to Bari, a town almost a 1,000 km away in south of Italy.

    US University shooter killed his wife

      Mainak Sarkar was in a Ph.D program for ten years. He killed his wife in Minnesota and then drove 2500 kms to Los Angeles and shot dead his advisor at University of California.  among the first discoveries that have been made is that the woman who was found shot to death in a Minnesota home was married to Sarkar but was separated from him. Authorities tracked down Ashley Hasti when they found a note on Sarkar after his murder-suicide of Ph.D advisor William Klug in which he had asked those who found his body to take care of his cat left behind in a Minnesota apartment.   When the police reached there they found a "kill list" with three names on it - two UCLA profs and Ashley Hasti. When they rushed to Hasti's home, they found her dead from gunshots. Sarkar and Hasti had married on June 14, 2011, but the marriage reportedly lasted only a year and they were separated at the time of her death.

    India applies for Nuclear Suppliers Group

      New Delhi has silently submitted its formal application for membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group ( NSG ) ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the United States of America, starting June 4. The application was sent through on May 12, almost a week before Pakistan sent its case. And the first big test will be on June 9-10 at a closed-door NSG meet in Vienna.

    Man stays in Delhi airport for 10day,with fake ticket

      Just a week before Republic Day this year, in a major security breach, a man who was a Gurgaon resident managed to get inside the IGI Airport, New Delhi, on a fake Etihad ticket for United Arab Emirates and spent 10 days in the international terminal, unnoticed by airport staff and security personnel. Mohammad Abdullah, who hails from Hyderabad and claimed that he was working for a Gurgaon company, was finally noticed by a housekeeping staffer, who alerted CISF. On January 10th he was handed over to the Delhi Police.

    IIT student kills professor in US university

      Mainak Sarkar, a 38-year old IIT Kharagpur alumnus, who had been working on a Ph.D at UCLA for several years, on Wednesday walked into his professor William Klug's office at University of California, Los Angeles' Henri Samueli School of Engineering, and shot him dead. He then took his own life. On March 10 in a blog he wrote, "William Klug, UCLA professor is not the kind of person when you think of a professor. He is a very sick person. I urge every new student coming to UCLA to stay away from this guy. I was this guy's Phd student. We had personal differences. He cleverly stole all my code and gave it to another student. He made me really sick."

    KCR spends 30Crs on Ads to mark 2nd year

      At a time when farmers are committing suicides because of the severe drought conditions in the state, crore of rupees are being spent on advertisements for the imminent Telengana Day celebrations. According to sources they have spent crores of rupees to just advertise about the government and its celebrations. Several cultural programmes have been lined up across the state. The state government has sanctioned Rs 30 lakh for each of the 10 districts to hold celebrations between June 2 and June 7.

    KCR celebrates while farmers are dying: Digvijay

    Telangana CM is under fire from opposition part for his lavish spendings to celebrate the 2nd anniversary of state formation. Congress's Digvijay Singh claims that he has spent almost 100Crs on the celebrations. This is what he has tweeted: "KCR celebrating and putting huge ads worth 100s of crores.Another Nero in the celebration mode when poor people are dying. Shame on you KCR!"
