  • Hyd: Traffic rule violators may not get Jobs

      Violating traffic rules henceforth in Hyderabad is going to cost you your future job or even your chances of getting a visa. The Hyderabad Traffic Police is making data of those convicted under various traffic violations public. The careless attitude may prove to be a deterrent for offenders applying for visa or a job. Hyderabad DCP Traffic AV Ranganath said, "Photographs and complete details on the conviction and violations can be known about the person. If someone wants to hire a driver, you can check the background. Even US embassy and other consulates may use such data."

    Yahoo to shut down its "Messenger" service

      Come August 5, 2016, the good old Messenger of Yahoo, will not longer be functional. The troubled internet company has decided to discontinue the old version of its messaging service for good. The new Yahoo Messenger will become the sole way of exchanging messages, emojis, or GIFs. Yahoo is asking users to upgrade to the new version because from August, users of the old service will not be able to send or receive messages. The new upgraded version of the messaging service has features like instant photo sharing and also an option to unsend messages.

    Kidambi Srikanth losses in Aus Open Semis

      Kidambi Srikanth, on whom hopes were riding high for a win for India, lost in his semi-finals match against Hans-Kristian Vittinghus. Srikanth put up a good fight against Danish opponent Vittinghus, losing the first game 22-20. However, Vittinghus powered ahead in the second game and won 21-13. Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus proved to be too good for Srikanth to over come in a 43-minute semi-final battle. Though there were moments in the match where Srikanth looked good to take over, but it couldn't last for long.

    Saina Nehwal reaches Aus Open Finals!

      In a big boost to herself ahead of the Rio Olympic Games, Saina Nehwal defeated 2011 world champion and 2012 Olympic silver medallist Yihan, seeded fourth, 21-8 21-12 in just over half an hour in the semi-finals to storm into the finals of the Australian Open Super Series. Yihan Wang of China is the World No. 2 player. She will be taking on World No. 12 Sun Yu of China, in the finals of the tournament, which is to be played on Sunday.

    Great news for Air passengers from Government

      There is some great news coming in for all the air passengers. The government has announced some sops to ease out the cost the passenger is bearing to fly these days. The civil aviation ministry said airlines will have to refund all statutory taxes in case of flight cancellations. In case of flight cancellations announced within 24 hours of departure, the compensation amount has been enhanced to up to Rs 10,000.   The Civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju also said airlines must ensure that refunds on cancelled tickets were made within 15 days, at a press conference. He also said that the airlines would be charging Rs 100 per Kg for baggage weight in excess of 15 kg till 20 kg. At present, Rs 300 is being charged on every kilogram of baggage beyond the 15 kg limit. This sure is some great news for the frequent fliers!

    99% of Telangana are non-vegetarians

      A survey of people aged 15 years and above has revealed that Telangana has the highest number of meat-eaters in the country with almost 99% of its people being non-vegetarians. An almost equal percentage of men (98.8) and women (98.6) are non-vegetarians in the state. West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Kerala follow Telangana among the states with the highest non vegetarian population. But the overall percentage of non-vegetarians across the country has dropped from 75% in 2004 to 71% in 2014. Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana top the list of states with the highest vegetarian population.

    Court to Censor board: Certify, don't censor

    Justice SC Dharmadhikari who was hearing the Udtha Punjab case asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to explain their reasons to not give Udta Punjab a certificate. "Give the film a certificate, what is the need for cuts?" he asked.  Court also observed that the board's job is to certify films and not censor them. In its observation, the court categorically told the CBFC, that whether its TV or cinema, the board should leave it to the people to decide whether the film is defaming a state.

    Jharkand tops in PM's Digital India Programme

    Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar gave away the award to Jharkhand for its work under the Digital India Programme and official statement said. Press release also stated that apart from Jharkhand, Goa, Maharashtra, Mizoram, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh also got awards as top performing states.

    BJP MLA stands on bench in Assembly

    Some shocking scenes took place in the Delhi Assembly today. BJP MLA Vijender Gupta who wanted to speak on the appointment of AAP MLA Rakhi Birla as the Deputy Speaker of the House but he wasn't allowed by the Speaker Ram Niwas Goel following which he protested and then suddenly stood on the bench taking everyone by surprise. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kerjriwal also lost his cool and was seen shouting back at Gupta.

    Another Shock for Rafael Nadal fans

    Rafael Nadal, to the disappointment of his fans, has recently withdrawn from the French Open owing to a wrist injury. There is some more bad news coming that way, he will be missing out on playing in the Wimbledon as well this year. He will be missing Wimbledon after failing to recover from the wrist injury. The 14-time Grand Slam title winner conveyed this to his fans on his Facebook wall: "Hi everybody. I'm sad to announce that after talking to my doctors, and receiving the results of my last medical revision, I won't be able to play at Wimbledon this year."

    In the last 6 years, India have handed out debuts to as many as 18 players in the five ODIs and four T20Is played in Zimbabwe. This tour with a lot of new faces in the team gives ample opportunity for them to prove that they deserve a place in the Indian cricket team for long.     Hair transplant kills a man in Chennai

    In a bid to get back his lost hair,  a final year medical student in Chennai, 22yr old Santosh had decided to go for a hair transplant procedure last month. But two days after the surgery, he was dead. His mother, P Josebeen, a nurse, who spent 73,000 for his operation, is heartbroken to lose her son this way. She said she could only watch helplessly as her only son developed a fever immediately after the 10-hour-procedure involving around 1,200 hair transplants and died on the third day in a private hospital.

    Dhoni's team to take on Zimbabwe on Saturday

    Saturday's clash between Zimbambwe and India will mark the return of the former team to ODI cricket after a gap of six months. They have last played Afghanistan, a series they lost 2-3. Openers Faiz Fazal and KL Rahul look set for their ODI debuts in this 3 match series. Yuzvendra Chahal , who was the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL, may also get a chance to make his debut for India.

    Abhinav Bindra; India's Olympic Flag bearer

    Ace shooter Abhinav Bindra has got yet another honor. The Olympic champion shooter Bindra was on Friday chosen as the flagbearer of the Indian contingent at the Rio Games' opening ceremony on August 5. He took to twitter to convey his feelings about the development, he tweeted: "To be the flag bearer at the Olympic Games is an athletes ultimate honor.I am humbled & grateful to be considered worthy of this great honor."

    IAF officer's mobile with confidential details stolen

    A Wing Commander's mobile and laptop with highly confidential information was stolen from his residence in New Delhi. He is posted at the IAF Headquarters and uses Air Force Cellular (AFCEL) mobile, which is connected to IAF's highly secure 3G cellular network. Since the phone and laptop could have been used to store sensitive data, Delhi Police is probing all the angles to crack the case.

    Hillary asks Trump to delete his twitter account

    After receiving the  endorsement from President Barack Obama, on Thursday, to succeed him in the White House, Hillary, who this week clinched the Democratic nomination for the Nov 8 election, tweeted she was honored to have his support and"fired up and ready to go." To this her opponent Donald Trump tweeted: "Crooked Hillary Clinton will be a disaster on jobs, the economy, trade, healthcare, the military, guns and just about all else. Obama plus!" Hillary tweeted back to this with "Delete your account," which turned out to be the most famous tweet of hers ever until now.

    Obama backs Hillary as next President

    President Obama give his support to Hillary Clinton on Thursday, calling the former secretary of State the most qualified candidate to succeed him in office. "She's got the courage, the compassion and the heart to get the job done," Obama says in the three-minute video. He also added, "I’m with her, I am fired up, and I cannot wait to get out there to campaign for Hillary.”

    17 road accident deaths per hour in India

    With more than five lakh road accidents every year, Indian roads claim the lives of 1.46 lakh citizens annually. Which comes down to that of 17 deaths an hour, 400 per day. Mumbai tops the highest number of accidents of all cities in the country, while national capital Delhi topped the list of fatalities with 1622 deaths last year. Also, 54.1% is the share of fatal accidents that involve people in the age group of 15-34 years.

    Govt's tough rules for Matrimonial sites

    Since late last year talks were on between the representatives of the matrimonial portals and the Women and Child Development ministry, Home ministry, Department for Electronics and Information Technology to regulate portals like Jeevansathi, Bharat Matrimony and Shaadi.com. The latest guidelines require websites to have an IP address registry of site visitors, and for users to upload ID proof documents like Adhaar Card when they join, probably useful for reducing fake profiles and identifying culprits in case of cyber crime.
