Kovur By-election: An Acid Test For Jagan

Kovur constituency in Nellore district is one of the seven constituencies in Andhra Pradesh that are going for by-elections on 18 March, 2012. The Kovur Assembly by-poll has assumed significance because it would be the first election fought by the YSR Congress Party outside its home turf Kadapa. People are eagerly waiting to see how this newborn YSR party fares in the bypoll. The YSR party and its president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is also a sitting MP from Kadapa, are very confident that they are going to wrench the Kovur seat with a thumping 60,000 majority. But, going by the present situation, it wouldn't be a cakewalk as presumed by the party. The following factors are to be taken into consideration while assessing the chances of YSRC candidate Prasanna Kumar Reddy winning from this constituency. The Nellore district is dominated by Reddys and all the three candidates from TDP, YSRCP and the Congress are Reddys. The election is going to be a triangular fight between these three parties and all of them are well equipped to give fierce conpetition to each other. Taking it as a prestigious election, Jagan Mohan Reddy is touring extensively in all five mandals of Kovur segment seeking support for party nominee N. Prasanna Kumar Reddy. TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu also held a hectic campaign for his party candidate S. Chandramohan Reddy. Interestingly, The Congress campaign has remained low-key from the beginning with party nominee Polamreddy Srinivasulu Reddy mostly relying on support from groups led by Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, Magunta Parvathamma, Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi and others. In 2009, Mr. Prasanna Kumar contested on a TDP ticket and defeated present Congress nominee Mr. Srinivasulu Reddy by a margin of 7,444 votes. He has resigned from the party to join YSRC, paving way for this by-election. Lately the campaign has turned into a squabble with rival leaders, setting aside main issues, have begun hurling personal allegations against each other. TDP mounted a massive campaign against Mr. Prasanna Kumar in order to create a situation where his candidature is seen as a liability for the YSRCP. Though Mr. Chandramohan Reddy is Prasanna Kumar's maternal uncle, he is not mincing words in criticising his nephew. The problems of sugarcane farmers under the Kovur Cooperative Sugar Factory, closure of Kovur Thermal Station and acquisition of 2,750 acres for Kisan SEZ are some of issues brought into focus by political parties during their campaign. As Kovur is the only seat going to by-poll in Andhra region, compared to six seats in Telangana, top leaders of all parties have intensified their efforts. It can't be ruled out that after the death of YSR and continuing persecution of his son Jagan by the Congress has generated considerable sympathy wave among the voters. The YSRCP has pinned its hopes on the late YSR's image and support from the numerically strong communities of Reddys and Malas besides Muslims. On the other hand, the TDP wants to benefit from a split in these communities besides getting considerable support from Yanadis, Madigas, Pallekarulu, Kammas, Yadavas, Gouds, and other backward communities. Though it is a triangular fight, the YSR party faces more trouble from TDP than Congress. In normal circumstances, the TDP would have easily won because of the backward class support it had previously. But now with YSR party in the picture, the support may decline considerably marring the prospects of TDP. This by-election is an acid test for both Jagan and his YSRC party. If the YSR party looses the election to TDP, then YSR party will be devastated. If the YSR party wins this lone bypoll in Andhra region, pushing the Congress to a humiliating third position, then There is every chance for the YSRCP to emerge as the single largest party in 2014 General Elections.

Womens Day: Why Women Are so Special?

Why dedicate a day exclusively to the celebration of the world's women? The United Nations General Assembly, composed of delegates from every Member State, celebrates International Women's Day to recognize that peace and social progress require the active participation and equality of women, and to acknowledge the contribution of women to international peace and security. This year Women's Day falls on 8 March, tomorrow. On this special occasion, here's an ode to the very very special creature in the world - The Woman. "Mum and Dad were watching TV when Mum said, "I'm tired, and it's getting late. I think I'll go to bed." - She went to the kitchen to make sandwiches for the next day's lunches. Rinsed out the popcorn bowls, took meat out of the  freezer for supper the following evening, checked the cereal box levels, filled the sugar container, put spoons and bowls on the table and started the coffee pot for brewing the next morning. She then put some wet clothes in the dryer, put a load of clothes into the washer, ironed a shirt and secured a loose button. - She picked up the game pieces left on the table, put the phone back on the charger and put the telephone book into the drawer. She watered the plants, emptied a wastebasket and hung up a towel to dry. She yawned and stretched and headed for the bedroom. She stopped by the desk and wrote a note to the teacher, counted out some cash for the excursion and pulled a text book out from hiding under the chair. She signed a birthday card for a friend, addressed and stamped the envelope and wrote a quick note for the grocery store. - She put both near her bag, then washed her face with 3 in 1 cleanser, put on her Night Solution & age fighting moisturizer, brushed and flossed her teeth and filed her nails. Dad called out, "I thought you were going to bed." "I'm on my way," she said. She put some water into the dog's dish and put the cat outside, then made sure the doors were locked and the patio light was on. She looked in on each of the kids and turned out their bedside lamps and radios, hung up a shirt, threw some dirty socks into the hamper, and had a brief conversation with the one up still doing homework. - In her own room, she set The alarm; laid out clothing for the next day, straightened up the shoe rack. She added three things to her 6 most important things to do list. She said her prayers, and visualized the accomplishment of her goals. About that time, Dad turned off the TV and announced to no one in particular. "I'm going to bed." And he did...without another thought." Anything extraordinary here? Wonder why women live longer...? B'CAUSE THEY ARE MADE FOR THE LONG HAUL...... (and they can't die sooner, they still have things to do!!!!)     Video Source:Chuquai

AP Assembly 28 Feb 2012: Six Legislations Enacted

AP Assembly Session 28 February 2012: In spite of tumultuous conditions in the state assembly right from the beginning of 2012-13 Budget Session, the Kiran Kumar governmrnt succeeded in enacting six legislations on Tuesday night. The government pushed through the six bills including one to curb corruption in development works in general and the MGNREGP works in particular, even as the Opposition parties raised objections to some bills. The Bills that were passed are - The Andhra Pradesh Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employments Amendment Bill 2011, Andhra Pradesh Municipal Administration and Urban Development Bill 2011, Andhra Pradesh Land Reforms (Ceiling on Agricultural Holdings) Amendment Bill 2011, Andhra Pradesh Promotion of Social Audit and Prevention of Corrupt Practices Bill 2011, Andhra Pradesh University of Law (Amendment) Bill 2011 and Andhra Pradesh Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2011 were passed in the Assembly through a voice vote. The bill on social audit replaces an ordinance issued last August. Main Opposition TDP staged a walkout in protest against extending the term of an existing Managing Committee of a cooperative credit society from one year to a period not exceeding two years in the Andhra Pradesh Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill. Members cutting across party lines demanded that elections to co-operative societies be held without any further delay. The government, however, remained non-committal on this.

TDP-TRS War of Words

The TDP-TRS war of words is continuing unabated since Monday. TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu started hitting at each other once again. KCR, who was keeping low all these days without responding to TDP criticism, has now unleashed a volley of accusations against Chandrababu Naidu and TDP. In his efforts to portray the former Chief Minister as 'Benami Chakravarthy', KCR talked about Naidu's alleged illegal assets in Nellore district, which included even assigned lands. He demanded the Kiran Kumar Reddy government to inquire into the TDP chief's illegal property transactions. Chandrababu responded to KCR’s criticism, saying that the former was repeating Jagan’s lies. He said he had disposed off his lands in Balayapalli long back, but still KCR wants to talk about them. He said he would stick by his stand that if it were proved that he had any more properties than already declared by him, he would gift them to the whistle-blower. Meanwhile, TDP leader Motkupalli Narsimhulu lambasted KCR as a crony of Congress and Jagan. He alleged that KCR was getting funds for by-election from Gali Janardhan Reddy and Jagan and hence is targeting Chandrababu at their behest. Making sweeping allegations, Motkupalli said that KCR had shipping business in Gujarat and acquired lands in Delhi, using his ill-gotten money through the Telangana agitation. Looks like, the no-holds-barred exchange of abuses will continue till the by-elections in Telangana are over.
