Kerala is today’s destination where we visit the Vaddakunnathan temple. It is a temple which depicts the typical architectural style of Kerala. The style is so captivating that the temple is declared as one of the 14 sites in Kerala to be visited. The story of the temple takes us back to the sixth incarnation. It is said that Lord Vishnu in his Parashuram avatar built the temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is one of the very few temples in India that allows non Hindus to enter its premises.
There are many versions of the story associated with this temple. One of the version narrates the story of Parashurama killing the Kshatriyas as many as 21 times. To get rid of this sin he had to perform a yajna and give dakshina to a group of Brahmins. In order to fulfil this, he asked God Varuna to produce a secluded piece of land to be offered to the Brahmins. The land that came out in this manner was Kerala. The temple here rose to fame as the Vaddakunnathan temple. Hope you enjoyed reading this small piece of information.
