Home Waxing Tips

  1. Let hair grow to the recommended length. Most kits recommend hair be at least 1/4 inch long. This is necessary as the wax needs to be able to grab the hair. If hair is too short then the wax cannot surround the hair or remove it. But if the hair is too long then it will break off and not be removed entirely from the skin. 2. Exfoliate the area that will be waxed 24 hours in advanced with a buff puff or body scrub. Exfoliation will get rid of any dead skin cells. This allows the wax to easily attach to hair and not pull off any skin when it is removed. However, if you exfoliate just before waxing then the new skin will be sensitive and become inflamed and irritated. 3. Take an ibuprofen at least an hour before waxing. Waxing can hurt and an ibuprofen can make a difference. 4. Wash and dry skin thoroughly. Apply baby powder to ensure that the skin is dry. Baby powder will also take care of any oil on the skin. 5. Lay down an old towel or newspapers where you will be waxing. This will catch any wax should it drip onto the floor and makes clean up very easy. With newspapers you simply need to gather them up and recycle. This eliminates the need to scrape wax off the bathroom floor. 6. Heat the wax to the specified temperature and keep it at this temperature. A small wax heater or water bath can be the easiest way to ensure the wax is at the correct working temperature. If the wax is too hot then it will burn skin and drip everywhere. If the wax is too hard or cool it will be difficult to apply and will not grab the hair for removal. This can be the most difficult part of home waxing. If using a microwave to heat the wax, reheating it every few minutes can help ensure the wax is at the proper temperature. The wax should be between 43 and 68 degrees Celsius. 7. Apply the wax with the provided spatula or roll on. To be as neat as possible, scrap off the spatula after each application. If wax is left on the spatula then it can begin to harden and this will make it very difficult and messy to apply additional wax. It is not necessary to apply large globs of wax. Smaller amounts applied to small areas can result in a much better waxing job. Roll ons make less of a mess than spatulas but most kits will contain spatulas. If waxing is a frequent activity then purchasing a roll on is a good idea. 8. Apply the strip provided in the kit to the waxed area following the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure to smooth out the strip several times before pulling it off. Ensure that the strip completely covers all of the wax. If the edges of the wax are not covered cleanup on your skin difficult can be difficult. Gently rubbing the strip onto the wax helps it adhere. 9. Grab the bottom end of the strip and pull in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Hold the skin taunt with your other hand for easier hair removal. 10. Repeat the waxing procedure until all the hair is removed. 11. Apply baby oil to a soft cloth and gently rub the skin to remove any small spots of wax that were not removed in the waxing process. Do not rub too hard as this can irritate the skin. The wax will come off quickly. 12. Turn off the water bath or wax heater and allow wax to cool. Depending on how much wax was used, you can save the tub for further applications. Allow the wax to cool completely and store in a dry place. Clean off the roll on or spatula and store as well.

Tips to Swollen Feet

  The easiest way to get relief from tired and swollen feet would be to dip them in a bucket of cold water. You can even keep your feet under a cold-water tap. Another effective method would be to take cold drink cans from the refrigerator and roll them over the feet. It will provide relaxing effect, kicking away bouts of tiredness or swollenness. Place your feet on a pillow and rest for about twenty minutes. Elevated feet helps in getting relief from tired and swollen feet. Rubbing feet with peppermint oils and fragrant herbal oils are effective in treating swollen feet. Massaging would improve circulation, which in turn will reduce edema. This might come to you as a surprise but rolling a tennis ball under your feet for several minutes is an effective way of exercising the feet and treating tiredness. Take two buckets of hot and ice-cold water respectively. Soak your feet first in the bucket of hot water (keep it as hot as you can bare) for about 10 minutes. Thereafter, quickly switch to the bucket containing ice cold water for about 30 seconds. Repeat the process several times a day. Mix 2 tsp of castor or jojoba, 3 drops of lavender essential oil, 1 drop each of German chamomile essential oil and geranium essential oil in a small bowl and massage gently into your feet. Once you do this put your feet up for sometime. Wash your feet with a mild soap and apply nourishing cream on your feet. Massaging from ginger essential oil is effective for reducing swelling. Apart from alleviating pain and soothing aches, it also improves circulation.

Clean your hands & nails thoroughly. Using soap and water, get underneath the nails to remove any dirt. If you have nail polish on, use nail polish remover and a cotton ball to completely clean the nail surface. Use a Q-tip dipped in nail polish remover to clear anything left around the edges. 2. Trim and shape your nails. If your nails are long, trim them using a nail clipper or pair of nail scissors. Once complete, file raggedy edges down with an emery board. Round or square off the nail with long, smooth strokes of the emery board against the nail tip (this prevents nail splitting, which can happen if you file using short strokes). 3. Soak cuticles. To soften your cuticles so you can push them back with a cuticle or orangewood stick, soak your fingertips in soapy water for a few minutes. Once the cuticles look whiteish, grab your tool of choice and gently push the cuticle into the nail bed. This process shouldn't hurt, so if you feel pain, stop. Also, never cut or tear your cuticle; that could lead to infection. 4. Pick your polish. Start with a clear basecoat to protect your nails. Use three stokes of polish on each nail: Middle, then on each side. Let the basecoat dry, then apply colored polish in the same way. Be sure to let the polish dry completely in between coats. Once you've applied all layers, add a topcoat to protect the color. Quick-dry polish helps set the color. Remove any polish that landed on your skin with a Q-tip dipped in nail polish remover.

Skin exfoliation is the most important beauty treatment that you should follow in order to maintain healthy, glowing and pimple free skin. Use a little granulated brown sugar as a scrub. It is one of the mildest natural exfoliator. It removes the dead cells, dirt, sebum and impurities from the pores, which causes pimples. Cucumber works as astringent. Grate a small piece and squeeze out the juice. Chill it the refrigerator and dab it on your face using cotton wool. Wash it off after 15 minutes. You can even pour this juice into an ice tray, freeze and use it to rub the cube all over your face in case of severe acne. The cooling and soothing effect of cucumber will help in treating acne. Garlic is said to be a wonder cure for acne. Crush and rub a raw garlic pod on and around the problem areas several times a day, you can clear up your skin. You may also eat three pods of raw garlic once a day for a month to see results. The garlic pods purify the blood, which help keeping pimples away. Try taking garlic pills if you are averse to eating it raw. Neem leaves have been known to be the magic word to cure skin problems since ancient days. You may boil some leaves in a bowl of water and mix that decoction in your bath water or use it to wash your face. Fresh neem leaves can also be ground to a fine paste and mixed with some a pinch of turmeric and some multani mitti (fullers earth) to make a face pack and wash of later. A face pack made out of besan (chick pea flour) turmeric, honey, sandal wood powder mixed in some raw milk or fresh yogurt (curd) is very soothing on the skin and helps tighten the pores. Apply this face pack 10 to 15 minutes before going for your bath. The acidic property of lemon or tomatoes can be very useful in treating acne, scars and blemishes. Lemons clean out the dirt accumulated on the pores and will harden the sebum. Just take a slice of lemon or tomato and rub it on the affected area and leave it for few hours before rinsing your face with clean water. Another way to treat acne is to mix lemon juice with rose water in equal amount and then with this solution wash the affected area properly. You can use tomato juice and sandal wood powder too. Dab it in small dots on the affected area and leave it overnight. Wash it off the next morning. The acidic property and high Vitamin C present in an orange juice as well as its peel can be used to treat acne but it is better to use the orange peel.
