T Congress Resignations Draw Flak

The Telangana tangle is getting complicated for the Congress Party both in state as well as at the Centre. Goaded by TRS and TJAC, The Telangana region congress leaders have submitted their resignations in a bid to put pressure on the party high command and also the central government to take speedy decision towards carving out a separate Telangana state. Now the resigned Congress leaders are in a fix as neither the Speaker accepted their resignations nor the high command took a forward step in speeding up the separation process. On the other hand, Telugu Desam Telangana Forum is raising a hue and cry that the region's Congress leaders had struck a deal with the party high command on the resignations issue and TRS is proposing for re-submission of en masse resignations once again. Even within the Congress, some leaders expressed the possibility of Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao and Jana Reddy having agreed for the bail-out during their meeting with Azad last week. With this, the Telangana Congress leaders are not able to decide whether to tag along TRS again or to wait till high command takes a decision pertaining to Telangana issue. To find a way to ease out from the situation, the ruling party leaders met on Sunday but were divided over their next course of action. Of the 10-odd Telangana Congress MPs and MLAs that met at panchayat raj minister K Jana Reddy's residence in the evening, some advocated submitting the quit letters to the party high command, while another group wanted to give the resignations again to the assembly Speaker's office. However, the sources say, final decision would be taken only after the T Congress steering committee meets Azad in Delhi on Monday.

AP Bhavan Incident Blown up by Seemandhra: KTR

A 30 year old man hailing from Telangana, Yadi Reddy, who was apparently upset over the delay in formation of separate Telangana state, committed suicide near Parliament Bhavan on Wednesday. On hearing the news, several senior leaders of TRS party rushed to Delhi to pay homage to the dead Telanganaite. The leaders wanted to keep Yadi Reddy's body in AP Bhavan for sometime. The body of Yadi Reddy was not brought to AP Bhavan, but was directly taken to the Airport by the Delhi Police. Enraged by this, TRS MLA Harish Rao assaulted AP Bhavan OSD Ramachandra Rao. It is said that daughter of Ramachandra Rao and a media person, Vandana was also manhandled by the TRS leaders. There had been a lot of furor among the employees of AP Bhavan, who later on staged protest against the violent TRS leaders. A complaint under the SC/ST Act and several other sections had been filed with the Tilak Marg Police against the three TRS leaders. The behaviour of TRS leaders, particularly Harish Rao's, was severely condemned by one and all throughout the country. Employees unions and SC/ST associations also sought the government to punish the three TRS leaders. The incident was vastly covered by the media and it received abomination from all quarters. In spite of people's abhorrence, the TRS leaders doesn't seem to be affected by repentance. Instead, the future face of TRS party - KCR's son - K T Ramarao described the incident as mere "Unintentional and stray incident that got blown up because of the Seemandhra media".

Azad Predicts T-solution in Two Months

Congress general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad told Telangana Congress leaders not to go by media reports on the separate state issue and that no final decision has been taken on it. "Do not go by the media reports about who said what. My Beijing ramarks have been misrepresented in the media. So were the comments by Pranab Mukherjee," Azad told the leaders. Acknowledging the importance of the issue, Azad is said to have assured the team that the objective of his dialogue was to resolve the issue in two months. "I will take your arguments to them (the other region's leaders) and seek their opinion. Similarly, I will bring their apprehensions to you and take your opinions to them. After studying the various views, a final decision will be taken," he told them. According to sources, in response, the T-Congress team told the high command that the mood of the people of the region is such that nothing short of Telangana was acceptable to them. The team, consisting of ministers, MLAs and MPs also informed them that any dialogue can only be about the technicalities of the division. The conveners of the steering committee, K Keshava Rao and Panchayat Raj minister K Jana Reddy allowed all the members to vent their feelings. Initiating the talks, civil supplies minister D Sridhar Babu told Azad that, "Now, the issue is division of the state. No alternative is acceptable to us." according to the minister himself. Sridhar Babu stressed the need to resolve the issue at the earliest. Industries minister J Geeta Reddy, strongly arguing the case of a Telangana state, brushed aside Azad's suggestion to attend the duties as the dialogue was initiated. "Attending duties pending the announcement is not possible. If we go back without any assurance, we would be treated as traitors. So, we cannot attend the office till Telanagna state is formed," Geeta Reddy said. Every one present in the meeting agreed with her. MP Manda Jagannatham said the issue of division of the state should alone be the agenda for the talks. "If the party wants to come to power in Telangana, formation of separate state is the only option. If Telangana is announced, Congress would win not less than 16 seats. If the party reneges on the issue, it would lose in the both the regions," Manda told Azad. Nizambad MP Madhu Yashki was categorical that Congress had no option but to accord statehood to the region as it was the commitment owed to the people of the region since 2004. Another MP G Sukhender Reddy said," We have been assuring the people that Congress alone could be giver and fetcher of separate state. Going back on the promise means death knell to all members present in the meeting," Sukhender said. Turning emotional, Karimanagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar said Congress members would not have any other option but to commit self-immolation if the party goes back on Telangana state. Ponnam also complained about the provocative statements from Seemandhra leaders especially from TDP MLA Payyavula Kesav. "Situation is going out of hand because of the delay in announcing the statehood," Ponnam lamented. Bhupal Palli MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy asked about Pranab Mukherjee's apologetic voice on December 9 statement by home minister P Chidambaram. He requested that such a statement would create ill-will between the regions. Azad assured the member that party leaders should go by official statements only. Later, he asked them to come for the second round of meeting tomorrow at 5 PM, but in a small group.

Telangana Political JAC Protest Schedule Announced

Telangana Political JAC Chairman M Kodandaram convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday and decided to intensify struggle for Telangana by laying siege to all national highways that pass through the region in the first week of August. The JAC steering committee had also decided to intensify the movement further by carrying out various programmes to build pressure on the Centre for introduction of Telangana Bill during the monsoon session of Parliament, which begins on August 1. The siege in Telangana region would affect traffic on NH-9 (from Zaheerabad- Hyderabad- Kodad-Vijayawada), NH-7 (from Adilabad- Hyderabad- Mahabubnagar-Kurnool), NH-16 (Nizamabad-Jagdalpur), NH-202 ( Hyderabad to Bhopalpatnam in Chhattisgarh) and Rajiv Rahadari (Hyderabad-Karimnagar). NH-7 is the longest national highway that starts in Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) and ends in Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu), covering 2,369 km. However, the meeting could not arrive at a consensus on the duration of the siege. Some of them wanted it to be for 78 hours, while others wanted it for 48 hours. "The duration of the siege will be announced later," JAC sources said. In the meanwhile, before laying siege to national highways passing through the region, the JAC decided to carry out funeral processions of Telangana leaders who were yet to resign from their posts on July 22. Obviously, the JAC's targets are deputy chief minister D Raja Narasimha, ministers M Mukesh Goud and Danam Nagendar, legislators Marri Shashidhar Reddy and T Jayaprakash Reddy. On July 25, Telangana activists would remove the name Andhra Pradesh from all sign boards across the region and repaint\ replace it with the word Telangana, he said. The meeting also decided to target the economic and business interests of Seemandhra leaders if they did not stop spreading canards in Delhi about the Telangana movement. The TJAC chairman said a delegation of non-politicians (intellectuals, poets, social workers, artists and academicians) would visit Delhi in the first week of August and call on all important national leaders in UPA as well as NDA to tell them about the intensity of the movement and the necessity for a separate state. Nearly 86 employee associations have already expressed their desire to participate in the proposed people's strike beginning August 1, to bring pressure on the Centre to concede Telangana state.
