India strengthens non-proliferation regime

TOKYO: Japan recently said that, India’s presence in Nuclear Suppliers Group would help in promoting non-proliferation. The Director-General of press and public diplomacy in the ministry of Japan of foreign affairs, Yasuhisa Kawamura said that, they intend to continue working with India on the issue as they believe that India’s membership in NSG would help strengthen the non-proliferation regime and Japan would continue to discuss the issue with other member states.

On the contrary China says that India’s presence in NSG weakens the international non-proliferation regime, but is itself accused for violating both NSG and NPT guidelines.

Whereas Kawamura said that, he had a positive sense that they were making appropriate efforts. Japan is currently examining the pact that has been signed legally and after some clarifications would look to sign the final agreement. The agreement would then have to be passed by the Diet of Japan.
