Finance Minister Jaitley differs with RBI Governor

‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ ideas both are the brain child Prime Minister Narendra Modi. So, generally opposition parties only are expected to criticize them but not RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.

He said the products should be made keeping in view of Indians’ requirements and Indian markets, but not for exporting purpose alone. Obviously, his statement triggers a debate in the political circles and draws some mixed response to it.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who disagrees with his opinion, stated “There is a misbelief in many people that this program is to encourage exporting the Indian products to international market. It is not important whether the products are sold in the local markets in the country or exported to foreign markets. The basic idea behind this ‘Make in India’ program is to produce quality products that are par with international standards at affordable prices. If, we can produce quality products at affordable prices, foreign countries will show interest to buy our products only. If we can attract international market, we should be proud of it. However, I would like to make it clear that we will not blindly follow China policy in producing and exporting our products to foreign markets.”
