Nothing wrong in Gutta’s letter: Ponnam

Gradually, the letter written by Nalgonda Congress MP Gutta Sukhendar Reddy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi objecting granting of special status to the AP state, is gaining support from Telangana Congress leaders. Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar also supports Gutta Sukhendar Reddy writing letter to Prime Minister on this issue.   He said there is nothing wrong in raising objections on special status to the AP as it may adversely affect the industrial development in the Telangana state. If, the Centre is granting special status to the AP state, then it should give it to Telangana state also. I believe that CMKCR should take initiative and stress the Modi government for it. But, he seems to be more interested in getting a union minister post for his daughter and alliance with BJP rather than stressing for release of funds and projects to the state.”   Former union minister Jairam Ramesh has tried to reduce the damage to the party by disowning Gutta’s letter. Then he said that it is his personal and not Congress party’s view. Now he has to disown Ponnam Prabhakar’s statement also and probably many others to follow them in the coming days. Jairam should realize that this is not the way to handle this matter.   If the Congress party is really honest with its commitment on special status to the AP state, then it should ask its Telangana Congress leaders not to create any new hurdles in this process. Otherwise, people of the AP state have to believe that Congress party doesn’t want the Modi government to grant special status to the AP State.

AP and TS begin fresh fight for NIT seats

AP and Telangana government are gearing for yet another fight for sharing seats in the National Institute of Technology (NIT). Telangana government argues that according to NIT guidelines, 50 seats should be allotted to local students i.e. for Telangana students. Telangana Deputy CM Kadiyam Sri Hari submitted a memorandum to Union Human Resource Development Ministry secretary (higher education) Satyanarayan Mohanty on Tuesday.   He said NIT is a central government institution. Hence Article 371 (D) of the Constitution is not applicable to it. Hence, 50 per cent seats should be allotted to Telangana students in NIT. Andhra Pradesh can ask the Central government to create supernumerary seats for its students in other NITs in the country. But, CM Chandrababu Naidu is pressurizing the Centre to take away our students seats in NIT. We will resist any such attempt politically and legally said Kadiyam to media.   But, Andhra Pradesh government has two legal points to justify its arguments. It quotes Section 95 of the AP Reorganization Bill that says: “In order to ensure equal opportunities for quality higher education to all students in the successor States, the existing admission quotas in all government or private, aided or unaided, institutions of higher, technical and medical education in so far as it is provided under Article 371D of the Constitution, shall continue as such for a period of 10 years during which the existing common admission process shall continue.”   It also quotes 13th Schedule of the AP Reorganization Bill which says “Premium Institutions like IIT, NIT, IIM, IISER, Central University, Petroleum University and Agriculture University to be set up in the AP state by the Central government. Until then, the AP students should be given their due share of seats in all these premium institutions in the Telangana state, argues AP government.

Did KCR made self-goal on OU lands?

It seems Telangana Chief Minister has made a self-goal by announcing that his government will build two-bed room flats for the poor in the 11 acres of land that belongs to Osmania University. OU students, who are strongly protesting his decision, have given a bandh call for OU today. They also burnt his effigy and vow to continue their fight till CM KCR revokes his idea. Opposition parties also strongly opposed his announcement and described his ruling as dictatorship. They also vow to resist any such plans.   However, CM KCR is reportedly stated that he is a man, who will never step back once taken a decision on any matter. He justified his decision stating “This is not an era of kings’ rule and hence the educational institutions like don’t need vast piece of lands to run the institutions. After all, what is wrong in utilizing the vacant lands of the educational institutions for providing shelter to the poor people?”   He vows that he will definitely build houses for the poor in the OU lands. He alleges that some students are making this as a big issue, because some opposition parties are provoking them from behind. Obliviously, his reaction makes the students fume upon him. They suggest him to build houses for the poor in his own farm house in Medak district instead of clinching the OU lands. Opposition parties also have made similar suggestions to him.   Although, his intention is good his idea to take the OU lands has back fired at him. His announcement may make the poor people very happy, but it rages the hot blooded students of OU. Knowing that throwing challenge to the students is nothing but inviting fresh troubles, CM KCR has reiterates his decision. Obviously, his reply rages the students and also provides a good weapon to the opposition parties.
