  • UIDAI has been approached by World Bank

    NEW DELHI: Unique Identification Authority of India has been approached by the World Bank to share its experience with the other countries on the execution of Aadhar biometric citizens’ identification. Ajay Bhushan Pandey, UIDAI chief executive, said that Nigeria recently became the first country to send a team to India under the World Bank aegis to study the UIDAI model and a team from Tanzania was expected in the month of September. He added that, it was happening under the World Bank’s Identification for Development Initiative and they would offer all help to the visiting countries by way of knowledge exchange.

    Let Rahul come forward and prove it: RSS

      After Mahadev Kunte filed a suit against Rahul for defaming Kunte, Rahul Gandhi told the Supreme court that, he didn’t mean to blame the entire RSS for the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.  Soon after a day he said on the contrary that, he would never stop fighting the hateful and divisive agenda of the RSS. He stands by every single word he said. On Thursday, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh said that, RSS had no connection with Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination. If anybody had the proof, let him come forward and prove it, RSS challenged in response to Rahul’s statement. RSS nation publicity chief, Manmohan Vaidya said in a meeting that, RSS was an open organization where people were free to join, leave or even remain inactive despite being with the organization. Its name never figured in any case related to Gandhi’s assassination. There was no mention of RSS in the charge sheet filed with the trial court or high court, he added. 

    Trump’s plan was not a strategy: William

      WASHINGTON: On Thursday, defense experts from the political spectrum said that, Donald Trump, Republican presidential nominee’s U.S military plan costs billions of dollars, but with no clear strategy. Director of Arms and Security Project, Willaim Hartung said that, he hadn’t seen any kind of strategy. Trump said that nobody was going to challenge them because they would be so strong, but that was not a strategy, it was just a kind of wish fulfillment, he added. Ex- Reagan administration pentagon official, senior fellow at the center for American progress, Lawrence Korb said that, Trump just called for higher defense spending without giving them a number and without telling them how he was going to pay for the strategy.

    Pakistan’s hand is very obvious: Jitendra

      NEW DELHI: Jitendra Singh, a key delegation member, the minister of State for the Prime Minister’s Office said in an interview that, the All-Party delegation that went to Jammu and Kashmir had two opinions over visiting the hospitals to see those who were injured by pellet guns but ultimately decided not to visit. When he was asked about the reason for not visiting the hospitals, Jitendra said that, there was a divided opinion upon visiting the hospitals for various strategic and intelligence reasons that should not to be discussed in public.Singh also said that, the Pakistan’s hand was very obvious and more than evident. He was then asked, “But haven’t the pellet guns used by the Indian forces caused maximum outrage at local level and international forums?”  In response to the question he said that, Pellet guns were in use before they came in. They were introduced in J&k in 2010 when we had UPA government at the Centre and National Conference government in the state, if at all they had done anything, they had tried to find another option in the form of PAVA guns, he added.

    OP Kohli is the acting governor of MP

      BHOPAL: On Thursday afternoon, Om Prakash Kohli, the governor of Gujarat, took oath as the acting governor of Madhya Pradesh. As the state’s ex-governor Ram Naresh Yadav’s tenure ended on 7th of September, Rajendra Menon, the acting chief justice of MP administered the oath to Om Prakash Kohli, who had been assigned MP’s additional charge by the President Pranab Mukherjee. Kohli will be the acting governor of Madhya Pradesh until the new governor is appointed. Several cabinet Ministers of the state government, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, ex-Chief Ministers Sundralal Patwa, Babulal Gaur and Kailash Joshi attended the ceremony. 

    Quick action changes the perception: UP CM

    Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav said in a meeting that, quick and effective action in land grabbing cases and crimes against women would improve the perception of the law and order amongst the people. He said that, the district officials must reach the spot whenever any crime takes place and the officials would be held responsible for any flare-up. “Police officials need to gear up for the forthcoming festive season and for the assembly elections that take place next year. The officials should act against the guilty without discriminating against any section of people and without succumbing to any kind of political pressure, Akhilesh added. The Chief Minister also said, “The state government is taking steps to effectively implement the ‘Dial 100’ project to ensure that the police reach the spot quickly”.

    Court awards death penalty to an attacker

      On Thursday, Ankur Narayanlal Panwar, a Delhi resident has been awarded with death penalty by a special court for attacking his neighbor Preeti Rathi with sulfuric acid in the year 2013. Ujjwal Nikam, the special public prosecutor said that, the convict had one sided love for the victim. Panwar wanted to marry Preeti and asked her not to travel to Mumbai, but Preeti had rejected the marriage proposal and went to Mumbai to take up the job. Out of jealousy Panwar followed her and threw acid as soon as she got out of the train. Amar Rathi, the victim’s father said that, he was full satisfied by the verdict, Justice had been done to their daughter.

    ICICI started an automation drive

      MUMBAI: On Thursday, ICICI bank said that, it had started an automation drive to use machines and codes in many operations and was targeting to increase the shares of automated transactions by the end of the current fiscal year to 20% of the overall non- digital transactions.Chanda Kochhar, the chief executive and the managing director said to the reporters that, they were the first domestic and one of the few global banks to adopt ‘Software Robotics’ in their operations. They were already using that in 200 processes which represent 10% of their overall transactions. She added that, till then, the bank had been able to save nearly 60% in response time for customers using the mechanical interventions and would also be saving on costs through better utilization of human resources.

    Obama praised PM’s vision of innovation

      VIENTIANE: On Thursday, the president of United States, Barack Obama said in a meeting that, the Goods and Services Tax, which had been passed by the Indian parliament in the month of August, would unleash significant economic activity. The sources said that, Barack Obama praised Narendra Modi in a meeting that had been held at the 11th East Asia Summit with the Prime Minister. During the meeting both the leaders Obama as well as Modi discussed the immediate priorities between India and US with regard to the strategic partnership and the US president praised Modi’s vision of entrepreneurship and innovation according to the sources.

    Mallya will continue as the chairman: UBL

      BENGALORE: On Thursday, United Breweries Ltd Management supporting Vijay Mallya, the embattled liquor nabob, said that, Mallya would continue to be the chairman of UBL. Chug Yogendra Pal, the director of the company, while replying to a query, said that, UBL had tried to obtain legal opinion from an ex- chief justice of India. Chug also said, “Vijay Mallya can continue as the chairman of the company as per the law. The enforcement directorate has not attached any properties and shares of UBL as of now”.  Mallya was not disqualified to be the chairman of the company, Pal added.

    Nitish is more capable than Modi: Tejaswi

      On Wednesday, Mohammad Nemetullah, the spokesperson and the MLA of RJD party accompanied Tejaswi Prasad Yadav in launching a programme. A part of the programme says that, every Wednesday RJD party Ministers must be present to meet and to solve the problems of the workers and the others at the party’s office. At the party office, Tejaswi Yadav, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar said that, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was more capable for the Prime Minister post than Narendra Modi. Apart from being the CM of Bihar for the fourth time, Nitish Kumar had served as a Minister at the Centre and had been a member of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council.

    Uber announces new features in driver app

      NEW DELHI: Uber is going to introduce safety features internationally on the cab aggregator’s driver app as the distracted drivers are meeting with accidents. These safety features would let them manage as well as monitor the driving better.  At first the update would be introduced in Bangalore and later to the other cities. Uber’s head of safety for public policy, Dorothu chou said that, while alcohol was the leading cause of traffic crashes, there were other behaviors that could put people at risk, including distracted and unsafe driving. On Thursday, they were announcing new features in the driver app to help reduce the risks going forward, she added. The update is going to include daily reports, messages, speed display and reminders to the driver app.

    Mukesh won’t be losing money

      Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries is India’s richest person. He recently said in an interview that, Reliance Jio Infocomm was not just a telecom operator, but would in time drive waves of innovation including the internet of thing, driverless cars and virtual reality. Mukesh said that, they were focusing on stabilizing the connectivity business, which had seen an overwhelming response in the first few days since the official launch of services. He could assure that they were not going to lose the money that had been invested on Jio. They were not looking to make a killing, but they were looking to make a high-teens return on their capital, Ambani added.

    Flexi fares will be introduced by Railways

      NEW DELHI: It has been decided by the Ministry of Railways to introduce Flexi fares for Duronto, Shatabdi and Rajadhani trains. From 9th of September, the new development would come into force. These fares are same as surge prices of OLA as well as Uber. The price of the services is directly proportional to the demand of the product. The press release of Railway Ministry said that, the base fares would increase by 10 percent with every 10 percent of the berths sold subject to a prescribed ceiling limit and there would be no change in the existing fares for 1AC class and EC class of travel. The release also said that, tickets under current booking would be sold at the last price for that class and other supplementary charges like reservation fee, superfast charges, catering charges, service tax, etc., as applicable would be levied in full.

    FDI can’t happen in multi-brand retail

      On Wednesday, the government said that, foreign direct investment can happen in multi brand retail trading only when farmers and retailers were provided with enough resources to face the competition in the market. Nirmala Sitharaman, the Commerce and Industry minister was asked about the government’s opposition towards foreign direct investment in the multi brand retail trading.  To which she responded saying, “We welcome anybody...but if some way this dialogue is moving towards why not (FDI in) multi-brand retail in India? My answer is, 'not yet'.” She said that, India was trying to fix issues of last mile connectivity, inadequate infrastructure and farmers’ empowerment before the country could even begin to consider opening up foreign direct investment in multi brand retail.

    Centre must solve Cauvery issue: Congress

      Nagma, the congress party’s leader vigorously said that, the Centre should take a stand and resolve the issue related to the river Cauvery at the earliest. According to her, Modi should get out from his “Mann ki Baat”, should be more proactive in such issues and should take some decisions. The Congress leader stated that, while Rahul Gandhi had come to the surface, walked between the people and talked with them, the PM was busy roaming around abroad. She also added that, they stand by the people of Tamil Nadu and they would definitely forward the issue to their higher command. Earlier Karnataka government has been directed to release 15000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu in the next ten days by the Supreme Court. With regard to the Supreme Court’s order, Nagma said that, the chief minister of Karnataka was working as instructed by the Court and since the case was Sub judice, everyone needs to wait.

    Pokemon Go hurts religious sentiments

      On Wednesday, notices were issued by the Gujarat High Court to the Centre, to the State government and to the San- Francisco based games developer Niantic Inc., with regard to the petition against the game Pokemon Go. Advocate Nachiketa Dave said that, the petitioner Ajay Dave stated that the game hurts the religious sentiments of Hindus as well as Jains and that was her key contention. She says that, those who succeed are rewarded with obnoxious eggs and offering eggs to people in temples, even in virtual world, is highly objectionable. Nachiketa added that, lot of accidents took place as the players were getting engrossed in playing the game.  The game had been already banned in countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Iran due to religious and safety concerns.

    Shahbuddin was granted bail by HC

      PATNA: On Wednesday, Mohammad Shahbuddin, the controversial RJD leader was granted bail by the High Court of Patna. Justice Jitendra Mohan Sharma granted bail to Shahbuddin with regard to the murder case of a witness. Y V Giri, the counsel of the petitioner, said that, the allegation against Shahbuddin in killing Rajiv Roshan, who was a witness, was baseless as he was lodged in Bhagalpur jail while the incident took place in Siwan in the year 2015. He also said that, his client had secured bail in all cases that were against him and would walk out of the jail soon. 

    FIRs must be uploaded online in 24 hours

      NEW DELHI: It has been directed by the Supreme Court that, all the First Information Reports with regard to cognizable offences should be uploaded within 24 hours on the police websites of the states. FIRs related to sensitive cases that are in reference with sexual offences and terrorism have been exempted from the order by the court. SC said that, in the absence of state police websites, the reports could be uploaded on state government’s website and if the internet connectivity was unavailable, they could be uploaded within 48 hours of their registration.
