People of AP are aware about the enmity prevailed between the ruling TDP and the main opposition party YSR Congress party. Hence, no one can expect they co-operate each other to win the elections. But, both parties are strictly following the custom practice of staying away from bye-elections to enable the family member of the deceased MLA get elected unopposed.
Hence, the YSR Congress party leaves the Tirupati Assembly constituency to its rival TDP candidate Sugunamma, the widow of TDP MLA Venkata Ramana. But, the Congress party fields its candidate Rudraraju Sreedevi. Although, there are some other candidates in the race, the main competition would be between TDP and Congress party candidates only. TDP is expecting to win with at least 1 lakh majority. Congress candidate Sreedevi is also leaving no stone left unturned to win these elections.
At this moment, YSR Congress party city convener Palagiri Prathap Reddy came to TDP candidate Sugunamma’s support. He said that YSR Congress party will extend its full support to Sugunamma to win the bye-elections. But, his statement may cost him very dearly, because staying away from the bye-elections doesn’t mean that YSR Congress party is supporting TDP or its candidate. So, declaring open support to TDP candidate is sending wrong message to the people about party’s stand. He boldly takes this risk probably because he may be planning to jump into the TDP soon after the bye-elections.
