Mamata’s fight with Election commission

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Didi is not just fighting with her opponents in the ongoing elections in the State. She even seems to have in bit of spate with the EC. Right from the beginning of the election process in the State, Mamata has been accusing the commission of being partial towards the BJP. The dispute got out of bound when the Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to Mamata for granting freebies during her election campaigns. This is of course thought to be a breach of election conduct by the commission, which was prompt in issuing a show cause notice for the Didi.
But Mamata has portrayed the show cause as an insult to her by EC on behalf of central government. She has ordered the chief secretary of her government to respond to the show cause. This move has of course not received well by the EC. R K Srivastava, the principal secretary of EC, telephoned Basudeb Banerjee yesterday and told him that his reply can’t be accepted as the show cause was given to Mamata on individual front and not as a CM. With Mamata reluctant to reply the show cause herself, we have to wait for her next move... and that could be interesting as well!
