Lalit Modi applies for Carribean citizenship

Lalit Modi, who was the ex-vice president of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and the former chief of Indian Premier League has applied for applied for citizenship along with his family in Saint Lucia in the Caribbean islands. He is currently in the United Kingdom and has applied for citizenship under their investment scheme. Modi has a number of cases pending against him in various courts of law in India. If the Indian unit of the Interpol sends an adverse report, he is unlikely to get the citizenship.
Saint Lucia in the Caribbeans is considered to be one of the best tax haven in the world. It maintains highest banking secrecy standards. Despite its reputation of being a popular tax haven, St Lucia is believed to be selective about giving citizenship and follows a due diligence process before giving it. In order to be granted the citizenship under this scheme the person should not be having any criminal records registered against him and also a through background check is done to ensure there are no discrepancies in the side of the applicants.
