Minister Narayana has introduced a bill in the Assembly for approving the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA). The AP government is proposing to set-up it with a capital fund of Rs.1000 crores and a subsequent revolving fund of Rs.250 crores. CRDA will be led by the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu as its Chairman. The existing VGTM board will be completely dissolved and the CRDA will hand over all its employees, records, rights and duties in the jurisdiction of the capital region, once the CRDA bill get the approval of the state Assembly.
The CRDA will act as a sole authority for developing the state capital. It is authorized to handle the funds, make agreements with the companies, allot works to the contractors, grant funds for the works, supervises planning and constructing works, deal with legal issues in the capital zone, grants approvals to houses or apartments plans and all sorts of jobs in its jurisdiction.
The state government has estimated that around Rs.1 to 1.5 lakh crores to be spent on the capital city construction. So, CRDA has a great importance and so keeping in view of the huge funds kept at disposal, its extraordinary powers and jurisdiction obviously several ruling and opposition parties’ leaders may try to secure a seat in the CRDA.
