Noble peace prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi might be celebrating her party’s victory in Myanmar. But a new book suggests that she is apathetic towards Muslims. She once was irked by the questions raised by a Muslim reporter that she went on to say- “No one told me I was going to be interviewed by a Muslim.” This incident has happened when Mishal Husain, a BBC presenter asked her repeatedly to condemn the communal riots in Myanmar, for which she denied. These comments were revealed in Peter Popham’s book ‘The Lady And The Generals: Aung San Suu Kyi And Burma’s Struggle For Freedom’.
Though the burst out of Aung San is not enough to prove that she doesn’t care for Muslims. She has never agreed to condemn anti Islamic sentiment in Myanmar that led to religious conflicts. Tens of thousands of Muslims were forced to leave their homes, after the religious violence. But Aung San, an active speaker on behalf of oppressed has never raised her voice. One can certainly wonder why!
