India won gold and bronze in Paralympics

 

RIO PARALYMPICS: On Friday, to open the medal count of India at the ‘Rio Paralympics’ - the series of international contests that are conducted for athletes with disabilities, Gold and Bronze medals were won by Indian players Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Singh respectively in the T42 men’s High Jump event. Mariyappan’s best jump of 1.89 m made him win the gold and Bhati won bronze with a best jump of 1.86 m. Silver had been grabbed by Sam Grewe from USA  with a best jump of 1.86m. The Ministry posted on twitter that, Indian government gives Rs.75 lakh, 50 lakh and 30 lakh for the athletes who secure gold, silver and bronze medals respectively at the Rio Paralympics.
