AP Government challenges HC verdict on APSCHE

Andhra Pradesh state government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Monday challenging the High Court’s verdict given on the AP State Council for Higher Education (APSCHE). The High Court has stated that the APSCHE has lost its existence after bifurcation of the state as there was no mention about it in the AP Reorganization Bill. Hence, the High Court says that the present APSCHE including its employees, properties and bank reserves belongs to the Telangana government only and the AP government has no right on it. Telangana government has taken charge of the APHEC and its bank accounts also without any delay. It states that it would pay the salaries of the employees working in the APSCHE.

Hence, the AP government after careful consideration has filed a petition in the Supreme Court today challenging the High Court’s verdict. It complains that the verdict is unconstitutional and hence appealed the apex court to grant stay on the High Court verdict. Supreme Court is likely to take up its petition on Tuesday.
