Finally, the AP government has constituted a committee to address the coastal erosion in the state, especially to find a permanent solution to the sea surge problem at Vizag Ramakrishna beach. It issues a G.O. No: MS 17 on Monday for constituting a committee for this purpose.
The committee comprising experts in the field of oceanography and other departments will study the problem and submit a preliminary report to the state government within one month making necessary recommendations to arrest the sea surge. Based on their reports, government will take short and long measures to arrest the erosion.
So far, Vizag has witnessed sea surge for thrice, but fortunately there was no loss of life or properties. However, if it is not taken care of immediately, no one can predict what happens if it recurs again. India’s first ever Kurusura submarine museum set-up on the sea shore may be washed out first, if fails to control the sea surge. Moreover, thousands of tourists from all over the country come to this beach at Vizag every day. Hence, government has to take all necessary measures on war footing mode to prevent this sea surge before it recurs.
