Winter is the time of maximum exposure to dry cold winds and ultraviolet rays too. It is also the time for you to take maximum care of yourself to remain fresh and soft. * Use some good body lotion daily, especially soon after shower. This will give your skin a radiant look as it will help to lock some extra moisture.
* The skin of your hands is thinner than other parts of the body. Apply creams to keep them well moisturized before going to bed and wear gloves when you go out, this will also protect your nails from sudden breakages.
* Hot water showers is great during winter, but they cause damage to your skin. In order to avoid dry skin, bathe with lukewarm water and then pat your skin dry with a towel.
* The biggest problem of winter is chapped lips. Avoid licking your lips, instead use lip balm with at least SPF 15, this will help to heal cracked lips.
* Sun is fun during winters, but it causes loads of damage to your skin. Therefore, make sure you apply a sunscreen 15 minutes before stepping out in the sun.
* Cracked heels are a big pain in winters. Soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes and then scrub with a pumice stone. Later apply some cream over it. Do this regularly to heal cracked heel.
* Massage your scalp an hour or night before washing your hair. Spread the oil towards the tips as well, to prevent split ends and dry hair. Conditioners provide moisture to your hair. Apply conditioner after every shower, as it helps to smoothen dry hair. Skip using a dryer to dry your hair during winter months. Blow drying will worsen the condition of your hair making it more brittle and dry.
* When stepping out in the sun, make sure you cover your hair with a scarf or hat. This will help prevent frizzy hair due to the dry wind and sun.See to it that the cap or hat you choose is not too tight, as it will restrict proper blood circulation in your scalp.
* As the temperature dips, people pack their pockets to deal with running nose. This is the most common winter ailment.Blow your nose gently and regularly in order to get rid of excessive mucus or inhale some drops of eucalyptus oil for quick relief.
* Another most common winter ailments is Flu. Due to change in temperature many go down with flu.In order for relief take a steamy shower and sip in hot fluids like chicken soup or sweet corn soup.
* That tingling throat is a big pain. Hence, try gargling with a mixture of warm water and salt, and keep drinking hot water for relief.
* Keep yourself fully covered when the temperature goes down too low. To keep yourself warm, use mittens, bonnets, scarves and jackets to stay safe from cold winds.
* To stay immune towards various winter ailments, eat a high protein diet. Include fruits, vegetables and nuts in tour diet. Hot food and soups are delicious winter delights.
* Traditionally, most world cuisines, include more of good fats in the daily diet during cold months. The reasons find favour with healthy living experts as well. It seems the good fats help in the body's regenerative properties, and help deal with the higher metabolism during extremely cold weather, thereby preventing illnesses.
* Just because it's cold, it does not mean that you avoid exercise. It might take a little longer to break into a sweat, but the overall benefits of exercise are far too great to be avoided for 2-3 months every year. Get going with at least 30 minutes of exercise 5-6 times a week. Exercising will help to warm your body and fight the cold by keeping your body's immunity and recovery levels high.
* Keep a stock of vitamin and other mineral supplements and antioxidants tablets to help strengthen your immune system and ward off winter ailments.
