Coffee May Reduce Risk of Oral Cancer

Cofee Reduce Cancer, Coffee Reduces Risk, Lower Skin Cancer Risk: Drinking more than 4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day was linked to a 49% lower risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer death compared to drinking no coffee or only an occasional cup.Among 968,432 men and women who were cancer free at enrollment, 868 died from oral and pharyngeal cancer during 26 years of follow up.

* People who drank more than 4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day were about half as likely to die from oral/pharyngeal cancer as people who drank coffee only occasionally or not at all.the strongest risk factors for oral and pharyngeal cancer are tobacco and alcohol use. Most people with oral and pharyngeal cancer use tobacco. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection has also been linked to this cancer, especially in non smokers.

* Scientists found decaffeinated coffee also reduced the risk, although to a lesser extent, while drinking tea did nothing to prevent the disease. The latest findings, by a team of researchers from the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, Georgia, suggest it may not be caffeine that protects against the formation of malignant growths in and around the mouth.
