Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections: Congress Manifesto Released

UP Congress manifesto 2012: The Congress party on Tuesday released its election manifesto for uttar Pradesh, promising to develop the state's neglected infrastructure, and make it a corruption-free state, if elected. The Congress promises a school in every village, one intermediate college for every 2,500 families, residential schools for the very backward, and 500 model schools. The 20 lakh jobs that its vision statement released last week envisaged. It also promises doctors available at walking distance for all, upgraded district hospitals, a health lokpal (ombudsman) at the state level to ensure implementation of health schemes.   In fact, there will be focus on full and timely implementation of the UPA government's policies - that includes the 4.5 per cent sub-quota for backward minorities that the Centre has pushed through. The party also promises to explore the idea of having a sub quota for very backward Dalits. Clean UP is the mantra and the Congress says that does not only mean physical cleanliness. It promises action against the corrupt and says it will bring the Chief Minister under the Lokayukta.  

Chandrababu Support to Textile Traders Protest Against VAT

Former chief minister and Telugu Desam Party supremo, Chandrabu Naidu today announced his support to the textile traders in the state, who are protesting against VAT imposed on textiles. Traders have been appealing to the Government to withdraw VAT since no other State in the country have levied VAT on textiles. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday visited the protesting traders at Indira Park in Hyderabad and assured them of his party's support. Addressing the traders, he said that their demand for repeal of VAT on textiles is a justified one, as no other state is imposing such tax. He said, though in the past Odisha, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Tamilnadu governments have imposed VAT on textiles, but lkater withdrew it in view of the hardships the traders faced. He criticized the Congress government for its inability and callousness towards the wooes of the weavers and the traders.     Video Source: tv9      

Ujjain: Man Beaten to Death in Court Premises

Man beaten to death in the premises of a court in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Ramesh Nigam, an accused in 2 murder cases died after he was beaten up by the relatives of the victim on Monday. Ramesh Nigam, a village Patwari, had come to the court to face trial in both cases when 2 women and their sons allegedly beat him up. The attackers have been identified as the family members of Nigam's alleged victims. They have been arrested and a case has been filed. Police rushed Nigam to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. The postmortem report, expected to throw light on the cause of his death, is awaited.     Video Source: tv9      

Ghost in Warangal

People in several localities of Warangal in Andhra Pradesh are spending sleepless nights, as rumours of a ghost srolling in the streets at night spreading like wildfire since a couple of days. Rumours are making rounds that a 'female ghost', which is of 7 to 8 feet hight, is wandering in the streets of Kumarapalli, Kotthur Janda, Nayeem Nagar and NGO's coloney in the night. People are fearing to go out alone at night time to these localities. However, some youth of these colonies formed in to groups and are patrolling in the area at nights. Policemen too have joined in the patrolling. So far no trace of any ghost or clues of its existence are found.   Ghost in Warangal

Yanam Violence: CPM Leaders Doubt Post Mortem Report

The death of a workers' union leader sparked unprecedented violence in Union Territory enclave Yanam of East Godawari district a couple of days ago. Several leaders of the CPM, CPI, AP Rytu Coolie Sangham and a few other parties alleged that the post mortem report of Regency Ceramics workers' union leader Murali Mohan has been doctored. The leaders said this after attending Mohan's funeral at Panduvari Petta of T Kothapalle village in I Polavaram mandal in East Godavari district, 7 km from Yanam, on Sunday. Speaking to the reporters, the leaders told that the authorities of Yanam were gearing up to produce a false post mortem report to mislead the media and workers of the factory. CPM Visakhapatnam district secretary Ch Narasinga Rao alleged that the post mortem report, prepared at the instance of the Yanam administration, cited cardiac arrest as the reason for Murali Mohan's death. He said the union leader was brutally killed in police firing and demanded a judicial inquiry into the death and payment of Rs 25 lakh compensation by the Puducherry government to the bereaved family members and Rs10 lakh each to the workers injured in the police firing and lathi-charge. The leaders also blamed the RCL management for the loss of lives and massive destruction of property. A section of workers and some rowdy elements from East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Friday had killed the company's vice-chairman, Chandra Sekhar, and destroyed the factory and the educational institutions. Yanam in-charge administrative officer MV Subrahmanyam said police inquiry into Murali Mohan's death was in progress. The situation in Yanam was under control and no untoward incident had been reported since Friday evening, he claimed. People, who resumed normal life on Sunday after observing bandh on the previous day, blamed the unprecedented violence on political rivalry besides industrial unrest. Some rowdies of political leaders of East Godavi district were involved in the violence, they said.

BP Acharya Sent to CBI Custody for 2 Days

IAS BP Acharya Emaar scam: The Special CBI Court on Monday granted two day custody to senior IAS officer BP Acharya in the Emaar scam. Earlier The central bureau of investigation (CBI) arrested the senior IAS officer B P Acharya in connection with the multi-crore Emaar Properties scam. Special judge Nagamaruthi Sarma ordered the CBI to produce him before the court by 4 PM on Feb 1. CBI Arrests B P Acharya in Emaar Case

The central bureau of investigation (CBI) today arrested the senior IAS officer B P Acharya in connection with the multi-crore Emaar Properties scam. Acharya, who is presently the principal secretary in the Home Department, appeared before the investigating agency on Monday morning. After a brief grilling, the CBI sleuths took him into custody. Acharya was the managing director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) from 2005- 2009 when the irregularities occurred, has been named as the accused number one in the EMAAR FIR filed before the CBI designated court  three months ago.     VIDEOSOURCE TV9

Mahatma Gandhi death anniversary : Sixty four years after his death, Mahatma Gandhi's name today created a fresh world record in the Guinness Book. Around 450 boys here on Sunday dressed in khadi and Gandhi caps, as they dressed themselves as Mahatma Gandhi, walked half a kilometer from Mayo Road to Gandhi statue`s in central Kolkata in a `peace march`. "Observers from the Guinness Book of World Records have confirmed that they will be present to monitor and evaluate the record of having the highest number of children in the world dressed as Gandhi," Michael Anthony of UK-based NGO Tracks, which is organising the event, told reporters here. "Most of these underprivileged kids are from single mothers, who cannot afford proper food or education for their children," said Anthony who keeps visiting Kolkata to work for the uplift of destitute children. Ooty Cop's Tragic End in Republic Day Celebrations

A Ooty cop met with his tragic end while performing daring feats in Republic Day celebrations on Thursday. After song and dance items as part of cultural programs on the occasion ended, M Pandian, a member of the Armed Reserve Wing of the Nilgiris police took up to display his prowess in acrobatics. Pandian very well performed a couple of dare-devil feats on motorbike and breaking the bricks by his bare-foot kick. Finally as if bringing the curtain down on the programme, he took up a challenge which involved somersaulting over human hurdles. Volunteers of the Junior Red Cross had acted as the hurdles. During the penultimate somersault over 13 children, Pandian’s controlled landing had gone awry and he had suffered a neck injury. He was rushed to the Government Hospital where he died shortly after being admitted. The doctors said that a spinal cord injury had led to a heart attack and cost the gallant cop his life. Describing the incident as a, “great shock’, the Superintendent of Police S. Nizamuddin told that the constable who was earlier a member of the Special Task Force hailed from Chinnamannur in Theni district. The couple had two daughters aged six years and 11 months.
