Spring cleaning is the way to go!

The concept of ‘Spring Cleaning’ is quite a common concept abroad. And we must say Indians don’t believe in this concept at all. So, what is Spring Cleaning? By dictionary definition, the term means ‘cleaning a home/ house thoroughly after winter’. But if we go by urban usage, it might as well mean – cleaning up thoroughly so we get rid of unwanted stuff! Yes, we all have a lot of junk at home that we’ve accumulated over the years. It’s not easy to get these items out of our homes or lives – be it for their sentimental value or for their usage value or just because they have been there forever! But Feng Shui experts believe that creating space by throwing away unwanted stuff will create positive vibes at home. So why delay, let’s get rid of things thus:   ~ You’re finding it difficult to accommodate all your kitchen items in those shelves? Think again and see if you are filling them with junk - say, plastic containers and boxes which your neighbourhood restaurant guys have been sending across each time you order a take-away/ parcel! These are one of the first things that get accumulated at home without our knowledge. Learn to throw away the plastic boxes the moment you’re done with your dinner/ lunch. ~ You are out shopping and you’ve set your eyes upon that lovely tea set… well, while there’s nothing wrong with wanting to buy new crockery, just close your eyes for a moment and think if you have space to store the new set, or if there’s an old set that you’ve not been using for over two years now! Are you sure you don’t want to start using your not-much-used crockery or at least donate it to your maid or cook? Take a wise decision before you make an impulsive purchase again! ~ We would say please follow the same advice when you want to buy more utensils or stainless steel containers. With the increasing number of nuclear families, we really do not require those huge vessels in which you can cook rice for 15-20 people. Unless you’re the kind who hosts parties at home regularly, we would suggest that you pack those things away and donate them to an orphanage or old-age home. They’ll be more useful there than at your home! ~ The next biggest issue at hand is organizing your clothes’ shelf. You really have too many clothes and finding the right ones to wear to work every morning is a pain. This weekend, make sure you spend a couple of hours to sort through the piles of clothes stocked away in those three almirahs and see which are the ones you have stopped using because of size issues, which are the ones whose existence you almost forgot, which are the ones you bought but didn’t wear even once. Sort them out in your own order of preference – saris (daily wear/ work wear/ function wear/ party wear), salwars (designer wear with heavy work/ regular wear), and Western wear (jeans-tops for outings/ formal trousers shirts for client meetings). Besides these you’ve undergarments. Pile them up taking into consideration the usage factor and see if there are things you’ve not worn in the past 6-8 months (especially among your regular wear) and understand that those are precisely the ones you’re not going to wear in the next few months either. Harden your heart and discard them or donate them. ~ Repeat the exercise with your spouse’s and kids’ clothes as well. Remember the rule of the thumb: what you don’t wish to wear immediately, you won’t wear it later either. ~ Also, apply this rule to your kids’ toys – there are two cartons filled with toys lying under your child’s bed which s/he isn’t playing with anymore. They might have outgrown some of the toys while they don’t have enough interest or time for the others. Sort them out and convince your child to donate them to those less fortunate kids at an orphanage, and explain how the toys that they’ve outgrown might be useful and valuable for other children. ~ Now think about all the electronic gadgets or accessories that are lying in one of the shelves at home – unused. Be it your old camera (because you got a new DSLR), camcorder, DVD player, television, mobile phone, radio, music system, cassettes/ CDs, desktop, walkman, laptop, tablet, flower vase, table lamp, wall clocks – whatever it is, if you’ve not been using it for a while, chances are you won’t be using it ever in the future. Just sell them for whatever price is okay with you or just give them away to your household help. See, it’s so easy to breathe easy! Once you decide what to discard, life becomes easy. Don’t hesitate to get rid of junk and make your life simpler and happier! Get, set, go…

Refurbishing your home? Try these tips then!

If you’re looking at renovating and refurbishing your home and giving it a lovely makeover, Teluguone offers a few good tips and tricks. To give the house a new look, a few simple things are all one needs. Decorating the house in a smart, rather than lavish, manner is the trick. Try the following and you’ll not be disappointed with the result(s).   ·         Painting one of your living room walls with a bright shade of any bold color like orange, lime green, chocolate brown, yellow, and flame red will look appealing. It’ll give a completely new look instantly. ·         To make it a bit more effective, highlight the newly-painted wall with family photographs or children’s portrait pictures. That does wonders. ·         Another trick to achieve an immediate changed look is to adorn one of the walls with a huge painting of your choice. These days there are a variety of paintings including modern art –especially abstract paintings, computer graphics-generated art, geometrical patterns, floral patterns or even knitted paintings. Sometimes a replica of an original Ravi Varma or Vaddadi Papaiah painting will add a touch of class. ·         If you’ve a friend or relative who is an artist, you can request them for a custom-made painting or art piece to add an element of exclusivity to it. ·         If you don’t have much budget to spend on an art piece or re-painting the walls, you can get a wall paper/poster of a beautiful scenery and adorn your wall with that. It’s cheaper and the most the common practice too. The advantage with a wall paper is that you can change it every now and then – more so if it loses its appeal to you. ·         For those who are not really into painting or wall paper, you can think of various other options like wall hangings, masks of various kinds and the range of amazing decorative pieces and wall art made of wood, terracotta and brass. ·         If you’re keen on adding a range of things to the house rather than decorating just one or two walls, then there are options available for that as well. ·         Changing the cushions on your diwan or sofa sets will change the look of the room immediately. The same applies to the bedroom where with a minimum budget you can give a makeover to the room – either by changing the curtains or bed sheets and bed spreads, or by hanging a huge family portrait printed on canvas cloth on the wall behind your bed. ·         Get an interior designer to suggest a few affordable changes to your house. Most of the simple shortcut methods that they suggest can be done within a limited budget. You can choose one that’s not too heavy on your pockets. ·         If you like sculptures or potted plants, you can buy a couple or more and make the corner spaces come alive. Other interesting choices would be to buy a huge (medium-to-large sized) brass bowl, fill it with water and add roses/rose petals or lotus flowers to those. Keep it in the middle of your living room and see the charm. ·         If you’re thinking in terms of refurbishing the house by adding new pieces of furniture or accessories, this is the right time to get those bright velvet curtains or add that chest of drawers to enhance the attractiveness of your living space. ·         Other interesting options are a comfortable settee for that cosy corner of yours, a wooden side stand, a new flower vase, a wooden shelf on the wall to display your family heirlooms – the choices or aplenty. You can choose one that suits your budget.

Maintaining Your Glasses!

May be because of the advancement in Technology we all eyesight problems. Kids, becuase they are glued to televisions, ipads and playstations. The youngsters, always glued to their smartphones. The working class, always on desktops and phone. The oldage, owing their age the eyes muscle become weak so does their sight! So, inevitably we have to accept that we rely on a pair of glasses!   Here is how we take simple measures to keep them right : By using both the hands while taking them off or while putiing them on. Though it doesn't look stylish, it will save the frame bending and maintains its shape! Do not resort to the fancy cleaners with ammonia and alcohol. These chemical rip the coating of the glasses, instead use water with dilutes soap. To dry the glasses use the microfibre cloth provided other types of clothing may scratch the glasses. During your outing at the beach, it might be tempting to rinse the sand off in the water, never do that! As the salt in the water might corrode the frame at the joints and the glasses, instead use bottled water to clean them. Never leave them in place where the temperature is raising hot! As the frames are made by pouring hot melted plastic in to moulds. Exposure to heat might distort them! Avoid putting them on head, as hair contains natural oils that will stain the lenses and that angle will lead to stretching of the frame, either put them down in case or hang them from shirt. Never leave your glasses with the lens-side down, they will get scratched, put them in hard cases! Take Care!!

Modern Perspective of Janmashtami

Janmashtami celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. Ashtami is significant as it indicates a perfect balance between the seen and the unseen aspects of reality; the visible material world and the invisible spiritual realm. Krishna’s birth on Ashtami signifies his mastery of both the spiritual and material worlds. He is a great teacher and a spiritual inspiration as well as the consummate politician. On one hand, he is Yogeshwara (the Lord of Yogas — the state to which every yogi aspires) while on the other, he is a mischievous thief. The unique quality of Krishna is that he is at once more pious than the saints and yet a thorough mischief-monger! His behaviour is a perfect balance of the extremes — perhaps this is why the personality of Krishna is so difficult to fathom. The avdhoot is oblivious to the world outside and a materialistic person, a politician or a king is oblivious to the spiritual world. But Krishna is both Dwarkadheesh and Yogeshwar. Krishna’s teachings are most relevant to our times in the sense that they neither let you get lost in material pursuits nor make you completely withdrawn. They rekindle your life, from being a burnt-out and stressed personality to a more centred and dynamic one. Krishna teaches us devotion with skill. To celebrate Gokulashtami is to imbibe extremely opposite yet compatible qualities and manifest them in your own life. Hence the most authentic way of celebrating Janamashtami is knowing that you have to play a dual role — of being a responsible human being on the planet and at the same time to realize that you are above all events, the untouched Brahman. Imbibing a bit of avadhoot and a bit of activism in your life is the real significance of celebrating Janmashtami. Source: Art of Living

Rose Quartz to attract Love into your Life

Attracting the right partner into your life is an oft asked question by many people who fail to get the right person into your life or conveniently say that the right person is yet to come into my life.  When we stumble upon the right person, we assume that we will be ready to give and receive love in a relationship. But the popular self-help book Calling in “The One” by Katherine Woodward Thomas asks love-seekers to question this established approach and look within themselves instead as they begin the process of attracting — rather than searching — for a mate. It’s the inner journey that you need to make and ask yourself as to why you want a life partner, is it for love? Is it for physical companionship only? Is it because you are growing old and you feel the biological clock ticking? First answer these questions and start loving yourself. Unless you love yourself completely and uninhibitedly you cannot attract another person into your life. In this context Crystals are high in energy and can help you attract the right person.B y combining the power of crystals with your focus and intention, you can create the kind of relationships you truly desire. The Rose quartz is a favorite stone for love. Not only does it encourage self love, it helps draw new love to you, or deepen existing relationships. A piece of rose quartz under your bed will attract new love or renew existing love relationships, depending on your intention. You can also place a piece in the relationship corner of your home, the farthest right rear corner from the front door. Wearing a rose quartz pendant will also attract love and harmonious relationships into your life. A Rose Quartz placed in the South West (Far Right) corner of your home brings the benefit of an harmonious relationship to everyone in the home. Placing a large Rose Quartz Crystal or even better a Rose Quartz Heart in the South West Corner of your bedroom will ensure a happy relationship with your partner or will attract romantic love if single.

What you can do for your Father on this special day

The original breadwinner in most families, ( of course the mothers are also in the bandwagon nowadays) deserves the love and respect as the head of the house. We figured out a couple of things you could do for him on this special day. 1.    Role reversal -You become the dad and he the kid and you guys could have great fun trying to impersonate and mimic each other. 2.    Ask him to share a few things about his childhood days and if your grandfather is around ask him to share his feelings when he was raising your dad. 3.    Make a scrap book or collect pics and put them up in the latest digital frames where you can share memorable moments of you and your dad and your family together. 4.    The computer savvy kids can make a movie with any of the footage that you have made and play this on the computer screen or your TV screen .Trust us he will love this and go teary eyed… 5.    Visit or call or write to your own father to wish him a happy Father’s Day. If he’s not alive, spend some time telling your kids about him. 6.    Make a huge collage card and thank him for being the best dad in the world. This has to come from your heart and after all, you wouldn’t be there if it weren’t for him. 7.    If your father isn’t there you could probably do something for a charitable cause like spending time with inmates in an old age home or an orphanage. 8.    The best thing you could do is just nothing at all .Ask your dad to take a day off and luckily since it’s a Sunday this time he will be at home. Ask him if it is possible to keep his mobile on silent and let his laptop rest for some time and chill at home. Ask your mom to cook his favorite food and spend a relaxing and wonderful day with him. Making him feel special is not just meant for Father’s Day alone, it has to be extended throughout the years and the love and respect you give him is lifelong feeling…

This basic tip makes everything you wear look that much better and easier.   9.Posture. No slouching and always stand straight and tall. It’s important to have straight stature as  your body language is a reflection of your personality.   10. Colognes and scents .Remember less is more when it comes to fragrance. It's all right to smell good, but everyone doesn't have to smell it. Fragrance is such a personal preference, and you really must find the one that works best for you. Any kind of strong smells can be a total put off and can give headaches to your colleagues or friends.

Grooming tips for Men- Part -1

Who said that it’s only women who go to the salons? In the 21st century of the metro-sexual male we now have men who are grooming themselves to look more presentable and neat .This healthy trend which has become a common trend in the cities is slowly picking up in the tier 2 cities also. It’s no longer a woman’s domain to look well groomed .Presenting a few basic tips on how to look presentable and if you think you don’t have time for all this, subject yourself to the hands of your salonist and relax while you get yourself pruned. We start with the face and head in the first part and in the next article we will deal with other aspects of male grooming.   1.Hair should always be trimmed and neat and once you notice the locks grow in length it’s time to get a haircut. Along with that of your have hair in your nose please get trim those or ask your barber to trim the hair for you. We don’t want to look like an ogre do we?   2.Now we know that getting the eyebrows done is a girly affair, but we are asking you not to shape it just get the bushy look out and remove those extras. But you could give it a miss if you are not too inclined. A simple tip take a fine toothed comb and brush them before you leave for the day is that they don’t look too bushy. Same thing with the hair off your ears and neck.   3.Keep your nails short and clean. Long and dirty finger nails are something which has not been acceptable things since our school days where the teachers would examine our nails and hands. The same thing extends as we grow up to. Trimming them as and when they grow is a must and this also extends to the feet. If possible indulge in a manicure/pedicure for clean and supple feet free from corns callous and chapped heels. Buffing your finger nails adds a shine which makes them look nice.   4.Facials and clean up. It’s also important to get a face clean up done once in a month. The sun also affects the men’s facial skin and if you have to drive long distances it is necessary that you apply and SPF – that is a sun protective cream for your face so that the UV rays don’t damage the dermis. Invest in a once a month facial so that your skin stays youthful and bright. This is a plus point when you it comes to impressing women also!   5.Oral Hygiene. Clean teeth and fresh breath is a must have and it doesn’t matter if you have crooked or uneven teeth. Brush twice a day, floss at nights and gargle with mouth wash, again the familiar taunts of childhood. When you are heading for a presentation or meetings its best to keep some mint gum or minteys , the most offensive thing the other person can’t bear is bad breath. If you have any chronic bad breath conditions please visit the Dentist and get rid of it.

Researchers have found that people who meditate 30 minutes a day for eight weeks have improved focus, memory, and cognitive flexibility. Meditation triggers high-frequency brain waves associated with attention and perception: it feeds the wellspring of human creativity. So give meditation a try to get your creative juices flowing. Here's how to start. Find a meditation technique that works for you. There are many ways to meditate. What is important is that you find  a technique what works for you. The flame method :Keep your eyes open. Closing your eyes can lead you to drift away on certain thoughts. Stare at the flame of a candlelight if that helps, or a picture of a pleasant landscape. Repeating a simple chant (the  Om mantra ) also helps keep your mind clear and focused and keep a tab on your breating. Begin by meditating 10 or 15 minutes two or more times per week. Gradually build up to 30-minute session over several weeks. Avoid phone calls, appointments, interruptions during this 30-minute period. The spark of creativity is ignited when we are able to get out of our own way by letting go of preconceived notions, inward distractions of day-to-day worries, habitual associations. Creativity, in other words, stems from the state of mind induced by meditation. Practice meditating daily. If you exercise your brain this way you can make it stronger and more innovative than you were yesterday. Thirty minutes of "meditation " can boost your creativity when compared to the outdated brainstorming sessions that are prevalent in offices. Meditation for creativity is  simple to learn and with consistent practice, it  will return increasing rewards as you build them into your weekly or even daily routine.
