Can Mulayam float the 3rd Front
The ongoing verbal war between Union minister Beni Prasad Varma and Samajwadi party leaders can’t be seen as an individual war between two persons, but to be understood as a well practiced process for ending-up alliance between Congress and Samajwadi party.
Although, still there is a blinking ray of hope for a patch-up between them, letting their leaders go loose on their rivals is worsening the situation. However, neither of the parties shown any concern for their straining relations as they both seems to be fed-up with the other during these years due to known reasons.
Mulayam Singh has never tried to hide his ambitions of becoming Prime Minister of the country. Hence, he wants to fulfill his dream by floating the 3rd Front. Knowing that regional parties like TDP, YSRCP, DMK, JD and other small parties in the country couldn’t align with either UPA or NDA due to regional obligations, Mulayam dreams that by floating a 3rd Front he can attract all those parties and achieve his goal. But, he might be also aware that it is not an easy task to bring all the political parties onto his common platform.
He assesses that the regional parties are going to dominate the Congress lead UPA alliance in the next elections. So, if he could tie them together onto a platform, obviously it will provide a rare opportunity to fulfill his life time ambition. Hence, he lets his party indulge in a ugly fight with Congress party, so as it could make the neutral parties to believe that it is Samajwadi party alone which can cross swords with the mighty Congress party and hence it is the only party which can lead the 3rd Front.
However, while indulging in a bitter fight with Congress party, Mulayam Singh prefers to remain a spectator, as if he wants to keep his options open to regroup with UPA, if at all necessary.
