Scorpene data leak not a big worry says Parrikar

Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Friday said that Scorpene data leak is not a big worry. In a statement to the media, Parrikar said, “We are going by assumption of the worst case scenario. Don’t think its big worry, will be able to put things in right directions. Have told them (Indian Navy) based on inputs to find out area of concerns & take appropriate steps to address it.” The Defence Minister said that the leaked documents put on the web of 'The Australian' newspaper does not include any of the weaponry systems of the Scorpene as been reported in the media.

Parrikar said that the navy has assured him that most of the leaked documents are not of concern. Manohar Parrikar was also quoted as saying, "Our submarine has so far not done sea trials therefore the most imp signature doesn't form part of documents." The Australian on Thursday uploaded new set of documents on the Indian Navy Scorpene Submarine on its website, with detailed description of its underwater warfare system. This is the second set of documents on the vessels that are being built in India by French firm DCNS, however, the publication has blacked out crucial details given that it could prove detrimental to India’s defence.

Yesterday the Indian Navy had put out a statement saying, “Government is seized of the reported leak of documents related to the ongoing Indian Scorpene submarine programme as reported in sections of the media. The documents that have been posted on the website by an Australian news agency have been examined and do not pose any security compromise as the vital parameters have been blacked out.”
