T-MPs ask for excuses to avoid taking part in SAGY

There is overwhelming response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) scheme. MPs are taking part in this program cutting across the party lines. Including Modi, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and many union ministers and MPs are adopting villages in their home constituencies and owe to develop them with the MP LADs funds kept at their disposal.

There are 11 MPs for TRS, 2 for Congress, One each for TDP, MIM and YSR Congress parties in Telangana state. However, none of them has come forward to take part in this rural development program. If they take part in this program, at least 16 villages would have turned into model villages in the state, but no one takes initiative.

Jitendar Reddy, a TRS MP from Mehboob Nagar has a nice excuse to offer. He said “Why only one village? I will develop all the 1600 villages in my constituency and my government is planning to develop entire villages in the state. If, I chose only one from them, rest of the villagers will feel very bad. So, I have not adopted any village.”

Nalgonda MP Gutta Sukendar Reddy has another reason to skip this program. Around 200 sarpanchs have approached me requesting to adopt their village. How can accept one reject the others? It will send a wrong signal to them.”

However, Ashok Gajapati Raju, Nirmala Sitaraman, Chiranjeevi, M Venkaiah Naidu, Sujana Chowdary and some other MPs of Congress and YSR Congress parties in AP state do not find any such issues in adopting the villages. So far more than half the strength of Parliament members have adopted villages. They also find no issues in adopting the villages, but only Telangana MPs have problems.
