Responding to a petition filed by the management of ABN News Channel, today the Supreme Court has ordered the Telangana Government to lift the one and half-year long ban imposed on that news channel in the state immediately. The apex court opines that imposing ban on the media is refusing the media freedom. Hence, it asks the Telangana government to take necessary steps to ensure telecasting of ABN channel in the Telangana state.
The apex court asks the state government to apply same orders to the ABN News Channel that were earlier issued by the TDSAT for TV 9 News Channel which also faced ban in the state. The apex court also serves notices to the district collectors and the central government stressing for the same. It asks the state government to take initiative to address the problems if any raised by the MSOs and ensure telecasting of ABN News channel programs in the state.
Recently, a fresh war triggered between the ABN media and Namaste Telangana media over the articles published in the ABN about CBI questioning Telangana CM KCR. So, it would be interesting to see how the Telangana government will react to the apex court’s orders.
