Supreme Court has cancelled mining licenses of Gali Janardhan Reddy in 4 mining areas situated at Andhra and Karnataka boarders. It has cancelled 4 in C category, levied heavy fine for various reasons in B category mines and revived 28 mining licenses in A category. The court has agreed and approved with the reports and the recommendations made by special committee formed by it, which studies Gali illegal mining activities. The court asked the government to handover the material from mining areas. It asks the government to constitute a special purpose vehicle (SPV) through which it has to sell the material and orders to deposit the amount into SPV’s account only. The court has advised Andhra and Karnataka governments to resolve their boarder issues taking SGI help at the earliest so as to avert disputes that provides ample scope to people like Gali for illegal mining activities.
