The maoist abductors of Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon have fixed 3 May as the day for his release after rebel interlocutors and the Chhattisgarh government reached to an agreement. The state government hoped the crisis would end on Wednesday itself, but an SMS from maoists to various media houses late on Tuesday evening said that the Collector's release has been been put on to Thursday.
According to an SMS sent by Vijay Madkam, secretary, South Bastar Divisional Committee (CPI-Maoist), the collector would be released at Tadmetla in south Bastar on May 3. "We are ready to hand over Mr Menon to our mediators in front of the people of Tadmetla", said the SMS. Tadmetla in Dantewada district is the site of the biggest rebel attack on security personnel in the state. Maoists had massacred 75 CRPF troopers and a police official in the area on April 6, 2010.
