After Mumbai High court, the issue of water wastage for IPL seems to have been taken up by the Rajasthan High court. The Mumbai high court has earlier slammed the BCCI and Maharashtra government over the water wastage for conducting IPL, and has ordered the matches to be conducted elsewhere in the country. BCCI had no other option except to obey the orders and has shifted three of its matches from Mumbai to Rajasthan. But has forgotten that Rajasthan which is a desert state, is also facing a drought like situation. Mahesh Pareek, a freelance journalist has yesterday filed a PIL in Rajasthan High court in this regard.
Apart from the state government and BCCI, notices were issued to Public Health Engineering department (PHED) Water Resources Department, Sports and Youth department and Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) by the high court responding to the PIL. The High court in its notices has asked concerned authorities to come up with their reasons in conducting the IPL. Mahesh is alleging that Jaipur which is to host the matches itself is facing severe water crisis and nearly 80 lakh litres of water would now be needed to conducted the said matches.
