Raghuram rajan about FCNR deposits.

Mumbai: Raghuram Rajan, the Reserve Bank governor on Friday, stated that, the idea of raising diaspora deposits that changed the downward course of the rupee when he took over had come from the bankers and he was skeptical about it given the cost to the exchequer. After launching his predecessor D Subbarao’s memoir at RBI headquarters, Dr raghuram said that, he thought that was bankers coming in again to get one of the sweet deals which would help them, as the bankers would go out, raise the money, get fantastic bonuses and the RBI would end up paying for it. Dr. Rajan also conceded that, he thought that the idea of FCNR deposits to be completely idiotic, as it would result in giving 3.5% subsidy to the bankers and that was the worst of the ideas on the table.
