Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today dismissed ‘speculative media reports’ which stated that he has emerged as a front runner in the race for the post of the President of India. “It is speculative. I don’t want to comment on it,” he told reporters while on way to Manila where he will be attending the 45th Annual Meeting of Asian Development Bank’s Board of Governors.
Reports today indicated that the Finance Minister has emerged as a front runner as the ruling alliance’s candidate in the upcoming presidential election.
UPA ally and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Thursday had said that the Congress has announced that Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is not their Presidential candidate, comments that came shortly after a Congress spokesperson suggested he is too “valued” to be spared.
However, Mamata hinted that she wouldn’t be averse to backing Mukherjee as the as the next President of the country.
“I cannot say anything. Congress party has already announced their opinion… He belongs to the Congress party. Congress party will decide. How can I say whether it is or not. I respect all political parties. I know my limitations. I don’t cross limits,” she said.
