After a gap of nearly two months, two ministers of the AP state, Basavaraju Saraiah and Ponnala Laxmaiah would be coming down to their native Warangal district for the launch of Rachabanda programme in the third week of November.
It's not that the state ministers were so busy elsewhere that they couldn't visit their respective constituencies, but it was the fear of baclash from Telangana activists that has stopped them. The pro-Telangana protagonists were demanding resignations from the ministers in support of separate Telangana. Sources said Ponnala and Saraiah are likely to launch Rachabanda in their respective Jangaon and Warangal East constituencies on November 14. Following angry protests from T activists, Rachabanda has not yet been launched in the district, although it was launched on November 2 in other parts of the state.
Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah seems to have been a bit luckier than his colleague Basavaraju Saraiah. While Ponnala was away touring in foreign countries, Saraiah faced the heat from T protesters in Adilabad district, on Friday last. Several youths threatened to commit suicide during last Rachabanda and gheraoed Saraiah at several places. Rachabanda programme was a failure in the district, last year. Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was booed down by women and Kakatiya University students at a Rachabanda meeting at Rayinigudem village in Mulugu mandal during the first phase.
