Major fire broke out in a hotel at LB Nagar in Hyderrabad on Sunday night, leaving 1 dead and 10 injured. The accident occured at the newly opened Sitara Hotel near LB Nagar Ring Road. Fire crackers busted on the occasion of a marriage function sparked off the fire, say the sources. Hundreds of people were reportedly present in the hotel at that time.
According to police and fire services personnel, two marriage receptions and a birthday function were being held in the hotel. There were nearly 400 guests in the hotel at that time. The fire was sparked by a fire cracker which was burst by a person who attended the marriage function at around 8.45 p.m. The fire cracker came in contact with the flexi on the fourth floor and the flames soon spread to the third and second floors and thick smoke engulfed the hotel. As the flames were confined to only one side of the hotel, fire service personnel and the police entered the hotel and managed to bring out the trapped guests safely.
The mishap led to a massive traffic jam on the busy Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway for nearly two hours. Police said they would look into the fire safety measures installed by the hotel management and take necessary action.
