At the Koti government hospital in Hyderabad a beautiful baby girl, not even four days old, has been abandoned by her family. The girl is not being breastfed by her mother, who insists that she gave birth to a boy.  Two families on Saturday laid claims to a baby boy at the government hospital with one couple alleging that their child was swapped by the hospital staff with a baby girl. The hospital staff will now conduct a DNA test to confirm to which family the boy belongs to. “How can I feed the baby girl when I was told I gave birth to a boy?” asks 22-year-old Rajitha, a tribal woman from Mahbubnagar, about 100 kms away from the city. She has given birth to her second baby just 14 months after she had a daughter.

 

According to inspector P Shiva Shankar Rao of Sultan Bazar police station, Shatru Babu has lodged a complaint alleging that a baby boy born to his wife Rajitha on Tuesday was swapped by the hospital staff with a girl. The hospital staff, when asked about the complaint, said that Babu's wife (Rajitha) had given birth to a baby girl. The birth of the child occurred a mere four minutes apart with another woman (Ramadevi) delivering her child at the hospital. The hospital staff said that confusion arose when they called Ramadevi to show the boy and the other family took the infant away from them.
