A statue of Mahathma Gandhi was destroyed by some unidentified miscreants in Thomalapalli village of Mahboobnagar district. The miscreants tried to completely dismantle the statue and in the process have broke one of the hands and destroyed both its legs.
The Mahathma's statue was installed beside the national highway No.7, passing through the village. The highway has been recently converted to a four lane road and also was elevated. The statue remained at the old level, while the road level got hieghtened. The villagers thought it better to shift the statue to a suitable place. They shifted it to the village center a week ago.
The villagers say that the problem started here. Some people in the village wanted to install a TDP leader's statue at that particular place and installation of Mahathma's statue might have irked them. Those people might be behind the destruction of Gandhi statue, suspect the villagers. However, police are investigating the case.
