The Karnataka high court on Tuesday granted bail to state's former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa, who has been under arrest over alleged land deals during his tenure. He will leave Bangalore's Central Prison as soon as paperwork is completed. On November 4, Justice BV Pinto of the Karnataka HC had granted him bail in one case and adjourned the hearing on his bail plea in the second case till today.
Mr Yeddyurappa was arrested on October 15 for corruption. He was accused of using his term as Chief Minister to help his children and their spouses get prime property at throw away prices. He was forced to quit in July after a report on illegal mining indicted him. His term as the head of the BJP's only southern government was littered with accusations of graft. There are five separate cases against him related to different land scams. After he was arrested, he moved from one hospital to another, complaining of chest pains. He returned to jail after doctors declared him fit.
