Bombay High Court, responding to a petition filed by producers Punit Mehra and Sumit Mehra has issued a stay on the release and screening of the trailers of Ram Charan Tej’s forthcoming film Zanjeer and Thoofan on Wednesday. Punit and Sumit have filed a petition against their elder brother Amit blaming he has cheated them both over sharing the remake rights of the film, which was originally produced by their father Prakash Mehra in year 1973 with Amitabh Bachchan. Hence the court stayed the release and screening of Zanjeer and Thoofan films.
There is another dispute also in pending over the intellectual rights of the film. Jawed Akthar and Salim Khan, who penned the original story for Amitabh’s Zanjeer film in year ’73, have been demanding Rs.6 crores as royalty for remaking the film. They have complained the matter to Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and Dispute Settlement Committee (DSC) and filed a case in Bombay High Court. Hence, producer of the film Amit Mehra has to cross all these legal hurdles to ensure timely release of his two films Zanjeer and Thoofan.
