Heavy rains brought the traffic on Delhi-Gurgaon highway to a grinding halt last night. A massive jam on the NH8 saw hundreds of commuters stuck in the middle of nowhere for as long as seven hours. Traffic was disrupted at the Hero Honda, Jharsa, Iffco and Shankar chowks (intersections). Gurgaon, the hub of multinational companies, today urged people from Delhi to stay away after monster jams caused by rain on Thursday and flooding of roads. Schools in Gurgaon have been asked to shut down for two days and people have been advised to avoid the roads at least till evening. Cricketer Rohit Sharma also tweeted about it saying "Kudos to #Gurugram City for successful test drives of the world's first Water Cars".
Another citizen said, he got to travel 1.5 kms in 1 hour in the Millennium City and that just one spell of heavy rains 15 hrs ago has got the entire city to a standstill. In pictures being shared online a number of buses, cars and other vehicles were seen submerged in water. The abandoned cars could worsen the situation, said police officers. Also the traffic from Delhi to Rajasthan has also been severely hit by the effect of heavy rains.
