This comes just a day after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi told the Supreme Court that he had never blamed the RSS as an organisation for the killing of Mahatma Gandhi. Last month, the Supreme Court had ordered the 46-year-old leader to either apologise or face trial for the remark, an offer the Congress leader had then rejected. "You must either apologise or face trial. The case must be decided on merit, whether what you spoke was for public good or not.

Rahul's counsel Kapil Sibal had clarified to the Supreme Court on Wednesday that he had not blamed the RSS as an organisation for Mahatma Gandhi's assassination, but only the people linked to it. In the video clip shared by Rahul, the Congress leader could be heard saying at a rally in Bhiwandi in Maharashtra: “RSS men shot Gandhiji. And today their people talk of Gandhiji.”
