Ex-president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Bangaru Laxman was convicted by a Delhi court on Friday for accepting a bribe from a fake arms dealer in a 10-year-old graft case. He was convicted by Additional Sessions Judge Kanwaljeet Arora.
The case dates back to 2001, when Tehelka.com carried out a sting operation that caught Laxman on camera receiving 1 lakh bribe from an undercover journalist, posing as an arms dealer. He later resigned as the BJP chief. Laxman, who broke down in the court room, was taken into judicial custody. He will be produced in court on Saturday morning for sentencing.
