The disputes between the AP and Telangana states over sharing of water have reached its peak with AP government’s letter to Centre appealing for deployment of paramilitary forces reservoirs to prevent Telangana government from drawing additional waters from the reservoirs. AP government in its letter to Centre complains that Telangana government is still secretly generating power by drawing water from the Srisailam dam, whereas was allowed to generate power till November 2, 2014 only.
AP government argues that entire Rayalaseema region will be deprived of drinking water, the ayacut under the KC canal, SRBC and Telugu Ganga projects will badly affected, if Telangana government keep drawing water from the dam for power generation. It argues that Telangana government should strictly abide by the water sharing formula proposed by the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal and shouldn’t violate it. However, the Telangana government is ignoring the Tribunal guidelines, Krishna River Board Management orders and also violating the schedule 11 of AP Reorganization Bill-2014.
So, AP government appeals the Centre to intervene in this matter and deploy the paramilitary forces to prevent the Telangana government drawing any additional waters from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar dams. Responding to the letter, the union water resources ministry is planning to seek the Telangana government explanation in this regard.
