The cabinet expansion which took place today allowed the media to do a lot of number crunching. There reports that Modi was looking to have a younger cabinet and that he did not want to get on board anyone who is above 75years was proved to be true today. Among the newly inducted ministers, the youngest is Anupriya Patel from Uttar Pradesh, who is just 35-years-old and CR Chaudhary is the oldest at 68-years-old. 10 of the new ministers are in their 60's, four in their 50's, another four in their 40's, and only one minister in her 30's.
The average age of the new group is 57 years. This means that the PM has strictly implemented the of not inducting those above the age of 70 into the cabinet. 4 of the ministers are Dalits, three are tribals and three are OBCs. There are also on each from the Brahmin and Jat communities. SS Ahluwalia is a Sikh and MJ Akbar is a Muslim. Out of the 19, two are women ministers. There are five advocates among the new faces. Except for three who are undergraduates, all the others are either graduates or post graduates. There are also ministers who have done there MBBS and also Phds and MBAs.
